Boag powers Beavers past Vikes

Minot State holds VCSU to just 23.5 percent shooting in first half

Box Score
MINOT, N.D.  – Minot State University's Christina Boag (So., F, Tamworth, Australia) did a little bit of everything Sunday night.

The sophomore had a game-high 21 points and 13 rebounds to go along with seven assists, four blocks and a steal leading the Beavers to a 66-52 win over Valley City State in a nonconference NCAA Division II women's basketball game at the MSU Dome.

Boag, who was 7 for 10 from the floor, including 3-of-5 3-pointers, scored 15 of her points in the second half as MSU pushed a 30-19 lead to as many as 20 in the second half.

The Beavers (6-5 overall) held VCSU to just 23.5 percent shooting in the first half and only eight field goals. VCSU, who played the game as an exhibition contest, went 11 for 30 from the floor in the second half, but still struggled to less than 30 percent for the game.

MSU didn't blister the nets by any means, but shot 41.1 percent for the game and hit 13-of-25 field goals in the second half. MSU hit eight 3-pointers, a season high for the Beavers.

Katelyn Ralston led the Vikings (7-8) with 11 points. Alyssa Hummel added seven points and Sadiqah Jihad finished with a team-high seven rebounds to go along with six points.

The Beavers improved its record to 41-39 in the 80th meeting between the long-time Dakota Athletic Coneference and North Dakota Collegiate Athletics Conference rivals. The teams play just once this season as MSU is in transition from NAIA to NCA Division II.

Carly Boag (So., F, Tamworth, Australia) finished with 10 points and five rebounds for MSU. Lauren Safranski (Jr., G, Burnsville, Minn.) scored 11 points, hitting 3-of-5 3s and pulled down five rebounds and Sacarra Molina (Jr., G, Hinsdale, Mont.) and Katie Hardy (So., F, Fairview, N.D.) each scored eight points for MSU.

The Beavers are on the road for three games Thursday-Saturday as they travel to Havre, Mont., for the Duck Inn Montana State-Northern Women's Basketball Tournament.
