Beavers go cold in second half

MSU can't capitalize on early momentum

Box Score
MOORHEAD, Minn. – Minot State University finished with just nine second-half field goals as Minnesota State Moorhead pulled away for a 71-55 win in a nonconference NCAA Division II women's basketball game Wednesday at Alex Nemzek Hall.

The Beavers never really shot the ball extremely well all night, but struggled in the second half as Moorhead extended an eight-point halftime lead to double digits. MSU shot just 31 percent in the second half.

MSUM (4-2 overall) didn't fare much better overall, hitting just seven field goals in the second half, but went 17 for 22 from the free-throw line. The Dragons outscored MSU 22-10 from the line and held a 17-5 advantage in the second half.

The Beavers (5-5 overall) led early in the first half, but failed to capitalize on the momentum.

MSU Moorhead was paced by Angie Jetvig's career high 29 points. She also finished with seven rebounds. Megan Strese was the only other Dragon to score in double figures, hitting for 12. Haley Thomforde added seven points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals to the MSUM cause.

The Beavers got a team-high 13 points from Sacarra Molina (Jr., G, Hinsdale, Mont.) and 11 each from Lauren Safranski (Jr., G, Burnsville, Minn.) and Carly Boag (So., F, Tamworth, Australia). Christina Boag (So., F, Tamworth, Australia) scored nine points and led MSU with seven rebounds.

Minot State returns to the MSU Dome for a home game against former Dakota Athletic Conference rival Valley City State Sunday at 4 p.m.
