Minot State WBB Gameday Notes

Minot State's Christina Boag soars in for a layup during a game this season. Boag is the team's leader in field goal percentage.
THIS WEEK: Minot State is back at the friendly confines of the MSU Dome for the first of six straight home games to end the season. MSU plays host to rival Dickinson State for the last time in regular season play as a member of the Dakota Athletic Conference Wednesday (5:30 p.m.)
RECORDS: MSU is 15-7 overall and 6-5 in DAC play. DiSU comes into the week at 13-10 overall and is 6-5 in conference play. The teams are tied for fourth in the DAC.
COACHES CORNER: Minot State's Sheila Green Gerding is in her 16th season at the helm of the Beavers. She has a record of 283 wins, 183 losses all at Minot State. DiSU's Andre Goldberg is in his second year with the Blue Hawks and second overall and has a 28-23 record.
ON THE AIR: The games are broadcast locally on KCJB 910-AM with Scott Kittell calling the play-by-play. Live online broadcasts can be accessed via the American One broadcast network and live stats can be accessed by logging on to (www.msubeavers.com) and clicking on the multimedia tab at the top of the page.
RANKINGS: MSU is still in the receiving votes category of the latest NAIA Division II Women's Basketball Coaches Top 25 poll. The Hawks are not in this week's poll.
RECENT HISTORY: Minot State split on the road with Mayville State and Dakota State, topping the Comets on Friday 111-74 before falling to Dakota State 72-67. Dickinson narrowly defeated both teams on the weekend, edging Dakota State 58-54 and clipping the Comets 74-72.
OVERALL SERIES: The Beavers have a 54-22 overall record against the Blue Hawks, dating back to 1976, but have lost three straight games at home to their rival. MSU's last win at home against DiSU was Feb. 20, 2008.
NOTING THE BLUE HAWKS: Dickinson State's Teryl Norton is the nation's second leading 3-point field goal shooter by percentage as she is hitting 48.3 percent, making 43 of 89 3s… Leading scorer Kylee Bittner has hit for double figures in all but seven games this season and has a high mark of 25 points scored in the first game of the season against Montana Western… The Blue Hawks have four players averaging nine points or better, with three scoring double figures… After going on an eight game home winning streak in the middle of the season, the Hawks lost twice at home two weeks again. They rebounded with two road wins. Before those two, DiSU only had three road wins in 12 tries.
HAVE YOU SEEN MY OFFENSE: In the last meeting between the two teams, Dickinson State held Minot State to its fewest points of the season (45), 29 fewer than the Beavers 74 point average and it marked the first time since Feb. 6, 2009 against Black Hills State that the Beavers failed to score at least 50 points.
SCORING IN BUNCHES: Just opposite of the Dickinson State game, Minot State's 111 points in its win over Mayville State Friday was the second most scored in school history. The Beavers hit 41 of 65 shots in the game for 63.1 percent and knocked down 8 of 16 3s. From the line, MSU hit 21 of 25 free throws. It marked the most points scored in a Dakota Athletic Conference game for MSU as well. The Beavers record for points is 131 and came in 1998-99 against Minnesota Crookston. MSU has scored 100 points on two occasions this season, knocking down 108 in nonconference play against Brandon University (Manitoba).
A PERFECT 10: Minot State's Caroline Folven's (Sr., C, Byron, Ill.) became the 10th MSU women's basketball player in school history to score at least 1,000 career points as she hit the plateau early in the Beavers win over Mayville State Friday. Folven has 255 points through 22 games this season and has 1,025 for her career with Minot State. Her next milestone will come if she can pull down 26 rebounds over the final six-plus games as she has 474 total rebounds in her career.
TOP 10: Minot State is ranked in 18 statistical categories in NAIA Division II with three in the top 10. MSU is sixth overall in Total Rebound Defense (33.81), eighth Free Throw Percentage (76.0) and ninth in Field Goal Percentage (45.0). The leaders on the team individually for those categories are all freshmen: Rebounding – Carly Boag (Fr., F, Tamworth, Australia) 91 defensive rebounds; Free Throw Percentage – Katie Hardy (Fr., F, Fairview, Mont.) 83.3 percent; and Field Goal Percentage – Christina Boag (Fr., F, Tamworth, Australia) 56.1 percent.
