MINOT, N.D. – The Minot State University baseball team has announced they will be hosting two instructional clinics this winter.
The baseball clinics will be on Saturday, Dec. 15 and Sunday, Dec. 16. The camp on Saturday will be for ages 8-13 and the camp on Sunday will be for ages 14-18. Each camp will begin at 1 p.m. and end at 5:30 p.m.
The baseball clinics will focus on all aspects of the game of baseball including hitting, pitching, all defensive positions and base running. Each participant will be sure to receive plenty of personal attention from coaches and players as there will be a number of Minot State staff members as well as some local area coaches.
Minot State is expecting two guest instructors, current professional baseball players Jeremy Horst and Charlie Shirek.
Horst is a Burlington N.D. native and is currently a major league pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies. Last season, he had a 2-0 record with a 1.15 ERA, while pitching in 31.1 innings out of the bullpen.
Shirek is a Minot, N.D. native and is currently a starting pitcher in the Chicago White Sox organization. Shirek spent last seasons in AAA with the Charlotte Knights. He had a very impressive year with a 11-5 record, with a 3.65 ERA, while pitching in 170.1 innings.
“We are hoping for a really good turnout,” said Beaver head coach and clinic director
Brock Weppler. “We want to give kids in the area and surrounding communities a good chance to improve their game. I think the clinic will be strong overall with a great emphasis in pitching. Having two guys like Jeremy and Charlie come in and let us pick their brain will be a great thing.”
