Box Score BEMIDJI, Minn. – It was a tale of two halves.
Minot State raced out to a 29-19 halftime lead, holding Bemidji State to just eight first-half field goals, but struggled to just six of its own in the second half.
BSU rallied in the second, outscoring Minot State 44-22, to take a 63-51 win in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference women's basketball Saturday at the BSU Gymnasium.
It was the third straight NSIC loss for Minot State (4-3 overall, 2-3 NSIC).
“It was a frustrating weekend for us,” said MISU head coach
Sheila Green Gerding. “It's been the simple things and we have to clean those things up. We didn't focus on the things we can control.”
Minot looked to be in control as the Beavers pushed their 10-point lead at the break to a 35-22 lead. But BSU finally found its range, going on an 11-0 run to pull within two. The game was back and forth from there until a late BSU run.
MISU helped contribute to the run as Minot state hit just one field goal over the last 8:21 of the game.
“We missed some layups and some free throws in the first half and it happened in the second half as well, but we turned the ball over too much in the second half,” Green Gerding said. “They (BSU) came out in zone and we didn't know where we needed to go.”
Lanae Rash and Thompson were the main reason Bemidji State (6-3, 2-3) rallied as the duo combined for 35 points, hitting4 of 10 3-pointers. Thompson hit three big 3s early in the run and Rash scored 13 straight points for BSU at one point in the second half. Rash scored a game-high 18 points and pulled down six rebounds.
Carly Boag (Jr., F, Tamworth, Australia) had a huge game for Minot State, pulling down a game-high 18 rebounds to go along with a team-high 17 points.
Alisha Jones (Jr., G, Kileen, Texas) and
Sacarra Molina (Sr., G, Hinsdale, Mont.) each scored nine points in the loss.
“Carly and Sacarra have been pretty consistent on offense for us this year,” Green Gerding said. “We need to get some shots to fall from other places.”
Minot State will look to end its losing streak with a single, nonconference game against Midland University Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the MSU Dome.
