MINOT, N.D. – Minot State University welcomed a large and enthusiastic Dream Catchers team as the 6th annual Day at the Dome attracted record participants and spectators.
The 'Day at the Dome' is an annual event in which the Minot State baseball team and Minot's Dream Catchers split into four teams for an action-packed two inning game. The game was born out of a class by former MSU baseball player Justin Beahm and has blossomed into a date marked by the Dream Catchers and Beavers alike.
“It is the one event we look forward to every year,” said MSU head coach
Brock Weppler. “We have a lot of fun with the members of the Dream Catchers and are proud to have them on our campus every year. The bigger crowd and more players this year made for an exciting night.”
Dream Catchers is a team comprised of special needs children organized by Minot's Michelle Bliven. The group gathers for games throughout the year and has made the MSU Dome home for its February game for six winters.
MSU baseball was joined this year by members of the MSU men's basketball team as there were well over 50 players from the Dream Catchers.
“It is great to get more members of the Minot State Athletic Department involved and we were really happy to have a great, enthusiastic crowd,” Weppler said. “We believe this is one of the best events the athletic department puts on each year.”
After each game, all four teams share a traditional handshake and finished the day with pizza.
