Beavers fall at Arizona Christian

MSU miscues doom Beavers

PHOENIX, Ariz. – Minot State University baseball had its first “flat” of its Arizona trip.

Arizona Christian took full advantage.

The Firestorm used 12 hits and four Minot State errors to top Minot State 13-3 in a single game Tuesday at ACU Firestorm Field.

“Sometimes hits are contagious and sometimes errors are,” said MSU head coach Brock Weppler. “We just didn't come out and play very well. We had done a good job so far this trip, but it wasn't very good today.”

The Beavers (3-14 overall) actually played well to open the game, taking a 3-0 lead. MSU's Mike Turcotte (Jr., OF, Victoria, British Columbia) and Mitch Olson (Jr., 3B, Deloraine, Manitoba) each and scored on a Scott Peters (Sr., DH, Altona, Manitoba) triple. Peters also scored on the play when the ball got away from the Firestorm third baseman for the 3-0 lead.

MSU's starting pitcher Jamin Heller (So., P, Lethbridge, Alberta) worked a perfect 1-2-3 first and ad a chance to get out of the second, but two MSU errors led to four runs.

“We make those two errors and you could just see it,” Weppler said.

Heller was shouldered with the loss giving up five hits and six runs – although just two earned – over two innings. MSU relief pitching wasn't great until a solid outing by Ben Sansaver (Jr., MI, Kalispell, Mont.) who went 2 1/3 innings of two hit ball.

Peters continued to have a solid trip to the desert, going 2 for 3 with a pair of RBIs and a run scored.

MSU has one last day off before a five-game stretch to end the trip.
