Minot State starts fast in rout of Saints

Beavers dominate early in big win

Box Score MINOT, N.D. – It took all of about six minutes for Minot State University women's basketball to end any doubt Sunday.

The Beavers raced out to a 23-4 lead, capped by a 3-pointer by Alisha Jones (Sr., G, Killeen, Texas) with 14:05 to play in the first half, and never looked back, blowing out Presentation College 88-55 in nonconference NCAA Division II women's basketball at the Minot State Dome.

Minot State (3-0 overall) had four in double figures, finished with 11 players scoring, shot 50 percent from the floor and handed out 24 assists in the win.

"It was nice to spread the wealth a little tonight and get a lot of minutes for a lot of players," said MISU head coach Sheila Green Gerding. "Obviously when the ball goes in the hole it makes everything look a lot better. We did a nice job of finishing tonight, we had a lot of our players have high percentage shots and I am pleased with how we not only shared minutes but shared the ball."

By the time Jones hit her second of three 3-pointers, Minot State's post Carly Boag (Sr., F, Tamworth, Australia) had already put her mark on the contest as well. Boag started the game scoring 14 of the Beavers first 20 points en route to a 22-point, eight-rebound effort hitting all nine of her shots from the floor.

Boag's efficient play, coupled with sister Christina Boag (Jr., F, Tamworth, Australia), Katie Hardy (Jr., F, Fairview, N.D.) and Bridger Rice (So., F, Savage, Mont.) gave the Beavers a huge 44-6 advantage on points in the paint.

"We were really unselfish with the ball tonight," said Hardy who finished with three assists. "We were able to make that extra pass and give the ball to someone who needs it and has the best shot for our team."

Presentation College (2-5 overall) never led in the ballgame and had just one tie, 2-2 on a Janiver Barbarin hoop. Barbarin was solid for the Saints as she scored a team-high 17 points and had nine rebounds in the game. Hannah Phillips finished with 11 points on three 3-pointers as the Saints only other double-figure scorer.

Minot State dominated every statistical category, turning PC over 19 points and holding a 14-4 advantage on steals. MISU finished with just nine turnovers for the game.

Along with Carly Boag, Christina Boag finished with 14 points, four assists, three rebounds and three steals. Jones hit for 11 points and dished out five assists, while Morgan Klose (Jr., G, Fairview, N.D.) knocked down two 3-pointers on her way to 10 points. Rice game off the bench to scored eight points and pull down four rebounds in just 13 minutes of play.

Minot State will entertain old rival Dickinson State in its final nonconference game Sunday at 5 p.m.
