Box Score BISMARCK, N.D. – Minot State University exploded for 53 points in the second half to erase a nine-point University of Mary halftime lead as the Beavers ended a two-game losing skid with a 82-74 win over the rival Marauders in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference women's basketball Friday at the McDowell Activity Center.
The Beavers (8-2 overall, 4-2 NSIC) swept their rivals in conference play with the win Friday and have won three straight games in Bismarck. MISU has won three of the five meetings between the two schools as members of NCAA Division II.
"We were really out of rhythm on both ends in the first half," said MISU head coach
Sheila Green Gerding. "But, we put together a great second half. We had some awesome individual performances tonight, but it was as great team effort."
Minot State needed a 3-pointer from
Morgan Klose (Jr., G, Fairview, N.D.) just before the half to keep it from being a double-figure lead for the Marauders (5-4, 3-3) heading into the break. Klose was a big factor for the Beavers as she netted a career-high 27 points on 4 of 5 shooting from beyond the arc and added three assists.
The Marauders led much of the first half, hitting 48.4 percent of their shots in the first half, but couldn't match the Beavers' 58.6 percent shooting in the second half as they just mustered 11 field goals and just 1 of 8 shooting on 3-pointers.
U-Mary led 38-24 with 2:04 to play in the first half after a layup by Linda Murray, but it was all Beavers from there.
Carly Boag (Sr., F, Tamworth, Australia) countered with a layup of her own 40 seconds later and Klose closed the half with a 3 keying a 29-9 run finished with a 3-pointer by
Alisha Jones (Sr., G, Killeen, Texas) over the next eight minutes.
Boag was nearly unstoppable as she poured in 30 points, pulled down 12 rebounds and added six steals. She has been a thorn in the Marauders' side as she has averaged 19 points, 8.2 rebounds and 3 steals in six career games, scoring 30-plus points twice in that stretch.
The Marauders finished with four players in double figures, led by 16 points from Lindsey Sand. Brittney Dietz pitched in with 14 points and four assists in the loss.
Jones hit for double figures with 13 points and dished out a career-high 10 assists for the Beavers.
Christina Boag (Jr., F, Tamworth, Australia) came off the bench to pull down 10 rebounds and score four points all in the second half.
Minot State is off now until Jan. 3, 2014 as the Beavers play host to Wayne State College Friday (6 p.m.) and Augustana College Saturday (4 p.m.).
