Box Score MOORHEAD, Minn. – Minot State University didn't have a second come-from-behind victory in them Saturday.
The Beavers rallied with a big second half Friday in a 60-50 win at Northern State.
Against Minnesota State-Moorhead, however, it was the Dragons with a big second half, outscoring the Beavers 42-33 to win 74-61 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference women's basketball at Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse.
“It seemed like we had that same look we had last Saturday,” said MISU head coach
Sheila Green Gerding. “We looked a little whipped, tired. Sometimes you see that at the end of the season. Sacarra (senior
Sacarra Molina, G, Hinsdale, Mont.) and Carly (junior
Carly Boag, F, Tamworth, Australia) basically played 40 minutes. We had a great, tough win last night and we still have to learn how to play hard back-to-back nights.”
The Beavers (13-13 overall, 10-13 NSIC) couldn't keep up with Moorhead's 3-point shooting and couldn't keep the Dragons off the boards. MSU-M (15-11, 12-10) hit seven 3-pointers – five in the second half – and out rebounded the Beavers 44-26, including 12 offensive boards.
“It kind of got out of hand in the first five minutes of the second half and we never really recovered,” Green Gerding said.
The win for MSU-M clinched a home playoff game for the Dragons and will be the NSIC North's fourth seed. Minot State will be the six seed in next week's NSIC / Sanford Health Women's Basketball Tournament and will travel to No. 3 NSIC South Augustana College Wednesday for the first round.
Minot State's
Sacarra Molina (Sr., G, Hinsdale, Mont.) finished with five points in the game to finish the regular season with 999 career points. She will have at least one game – the Wednesday playoff game – to reach 1,000 in her career.
Morgan Zabel led all scorers with 20 points. Marisa Yernatich scored 15 points, Megan Strese added 12 points and 14 rebounds and Kaycee Charette added 12 for MSU-M.
Boag finished with 14 points to pace the Beavers. She added six rebounds.
Morgan Klose (So., G, Fairview, N.D.) scored 13 points, hitting three 3-pointers and
Amanda Sansaver (Fr., G, Wolf Point, Mont.) and
Francesca DeAngelis (Sr., G, Laguna Niguel, Calif.) each scored eight points off the bench.
The game time of Wednesday's game will be announced Monday.
