Baseball signs three

Conner Oliver will join teammate Brock McCashland at MISU next season

MINOT, N.D. – Minot State University head baseball coach Brock Weppler has announced the signing of three student-athletes.

Conner Oliver of Dayton, Nev. And James Kary of Beach, N.D. have both signed National Letters of Intent with the Beavers while Keith Ailes of Bozeman, Mont. has signed an Intent to Enroll. All three will join Minot State in the fall of 2013.

Weppler and the Beavers finished the 2013 season with a  15-23 overall record.

Montana (1)
Keith Ailes, 5-10, 185, OF, Bozeman, Mont. (Bozeman High School/Jamestown College)

Ailes was named AA All-State Team while playing for the Bozeman Bucks.

“Keith is an outstanding person and we are excited to have him join the baseball program,” said Weppler. “Keith will play Outfield and possibly some First Base. He swings it from the left side and has a very good approach at the plate. He has good speed and will be a nice addition to the team.”

Nevada (1)
Conner Oliver, 6-0, 195, P/OF, Dayton, Nev. (Dayton High School/Williston State College)

Oliver will join MISU after two seasons at Williston State College. He was named to the Mon-Dak All-Conference Team both seasons at WSC. During his career with the Tetons he totaled 98 strikeouts in just 70.1 innings. He also hit over .300 for his WSC career. He joins Brock McCashland as the second WSC player to sign with the Beavers in 2013. McCashland was just named Mon-Dak Conference Pitcher of the Year.

“Conner is a high energy player that we think will instantly become a leader on the team next season,” said Weppler. “He has a chance to be a two-way player for us in the outfield and on the mound. In the outfield he covers a ton of ground and has a live arm. Conner is getting better and better on the mound and has very good stuff. We look for him to add some quality innings to our pitching staff next season.”

North Dakota (1)
James Kary, 6-0, 210, 1B, Beach, N.D. (Dickinson High School)

Kary was named to the Western Dakota Association All-Conference Team in 2013. He will play Legion baseball this summer for Dickinson American Legion.

“James is a strong kid with a nice swing,” said Weppler. “We will continue to work on his swing and we think he can be a good asset to the program in the future. It's nice to get a player out of Dickinson as they have always had a rich tradition of baseball there.”
