Box Score MINOT, N.D. – Minot State University's post tandem of sisters
Christina Boag (Jr., F, Tamworth, Australia) and
Carly Boag (Sr., F, Tamworth, Australia) combined for 54 points and 20 rebounds to power the Beavers to a 94-84 win over Bemidji State in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference women's basketball Saturday at the Minot State Dome.
Christina Boag finished with a career-high 29 points and pulled down seven rebounds to go along with four assists and two steals, while
Carly Boag netted 25 points and finished with 13 rebounds, five steals, four assists and three blocks for the Beavers.
"Chris had a great weekend and Carly, even on a 'bad night' is was really good. Her definition of a bad night and everyone else's is really different," said MISU head coach
Sheila Green Gerding. "She had struggled for a moment but got herself together a finished strong."
The Boags took turns being great as Christina scored 16 of her points in the first half as the Beavers jumped out to a 47-40 lead.
"It was really good to get two wins this weekend to maintain if not improve our standings in the conference,"
Christina Boag said. "Our shots were actually just going in today and if felt really good to help the team out."
Carly hit for 16 points and pulled down six rebounds in the second half as MISU (14-4 overall, 10-4 NSIC) pulled away from BSU. The Boag sisters were happy with their performances on a night where they had special guests in the crowd.
"It was good because last time our parents were here it was preseason and we didn't play that high of competition,"
Carly Boag added. "So it was great for them to see us compete and both of us play good on the same day."
While the Boags were dominate, the supporting cast was solid much of the evening.
Morgan Klose (Jr., G, Fairview, Mont.) knocked down 15 points and added five assists, while
Katie Hardy pitched in with 13 points and five rebounds. Hardy and Klose hit a combined 9 for 14 from the floor, helping MISU to a 59.6 percent shooting clip on the night.
"We moved the ball pretty well. I thought overall, compared to last Saturday, our ball movement was better," Green Gerding said. "We sat around a lot less, so that was good to see. Savana (
Savana Kingsbury, So., F, Omaha, Neb.), Amanda (
Amanda Sansaver, So., G, Wolf Point, Mont.), and Alex (Alexandra Haley, RFr., G, Libertyville, Ill.) all gave us really good minutes off the bench and played hard while they were in there."
MISU needed the entire cast as well as Bemidji State (8-10, 4-10) proved to be tough to put away. BSU countered with the 1-2 punch of Morgan Lee and Kate Warmack who scored 29 and 21 points respectively. Hanna Zerr added 15 and Jessie Althoff scored 12 as BSU finished with four in double figures.
Kingsbury finished with six points off the bench on 3 of 3 shooting and gave the Beavers solid minutes in the post. She helped the Beavers outrebound BSU 36-26 and gave MISU a 40-24 advantage in points in the paint.
Minot State heads out on the road for the first two of four straight road games, playing a key series next week as they travel to Concordia-St. Paul Friday and nationally ranked Minnesota State Saturday.
