BOX SCORE - JAMESTOWNBOX SCORE - WALDORFMINOT, N.D. – The Minot State University wrestling team competed in their first two duals of the season Friday afternoon at the University of Jamestown. The Beavers came away with two victories on the day, the first against Jamestown (35-15) and the second against Waldorf College (33-18).
"It was nice to pick up two wins to start the season. It was also nice to be able to get a good look at the new guys in a dual situation," MSU head wrestling coach
Robin Ersland said. "For the most part they responded very well to the challenge. Jamestown has had a coaching change so they were pretty young. Waldorf has a pretty good program, but they were bit by the injury bug. But, all in all it was a good day."
In the Beavers' dual against Jamestown, Minot State won seven of their 10 matches taking the dual 35-15.
Mitchell Eull (So., HWT, Buffalo, Minn.) pinned Jamestown's Marco Psihountas in an impressive 1:19 while
Tanner Crissler (Fr., 141, Belcourt, N.D.) pinned his opponent in a nearly as impressive time of 2:17.
Also recording wins in the dual were
Joshua Douglas (Sr., 133, Kissimmee, Fla.),
Cody Haugen (Fr., 149, Belcourt, N.D.),
Devin Combs (Fr., 157, Marianna, Fla.),
Ricard Avakovs (Jr., 165, Riga, Latvia) and
Dimitri Grivas (Fr., 149, Holiday, Fla.).
In the second dual of the day against Waldorf, the Beavers went 6-4 in their matches to take the dual 33-18.
Crissler, Eull and Avakovs followed up their victories in the first dual against Jamestown with another victory apiece against Waldorf as they all ended their day 2-0.
Jason Huger (Fr., 133, Mt. Pleasant, S.C.),
Zachary Cummings (So., 149, Birmingham, Ala.) and Toby Baker (Fr., 197, Sarasota, Fla.) also picked up wins for Minot State against Waldorf.
With little time to rest, the Beavers will travel to Moorhead, Minn. for their third open tournament of the season set for 9 a.m. Saturday morning.
