Box Score MANKATO, Minn. – Minot State University turned the ball over a season-high 29 times and lost for the second night in a row on a tough road trip, falling 80-62 at No. 24 Minnesota State Saturday at the Taylor Center.
The Beavers (14-6 overall, 10-6 NSIC) led by five early on, but had a swoon for the second straight night in the middle of the first half. Minnesota State (15-5, 12-4) rolled to a 44-31 halftime lead and never allowed the Beavers to get it under double figures.
The turnovers negated a decent night shooting as Minot State shot 43.4 percent from the floor, but the Mavericks took 20 more shots than the Beavers. The turnovers, coupled with MSU holding a 15-11 advantage on offensive rebounds, upped the Mavericks total possessions.
Minot State also lost the battle from beyond the arc. While neither team hit for a high percentage on 3-pointers, the Mavericks knocked down nine in the game, outscoring Minot State 27-9 from beyond the arc. Six different Minnesota State players hit 3s as Hillary Paulson finished with three triples for nine points off the bench.
Balance was a key for Minnesota State as 11 players scored, three players scored in figures and six hit for seven or more. Karlee Gengenbacher led the way with 15 points, while Tyra Johnson added 11 points and seven rebounds off the bench. Johnson and Paulson combined to score 20 of the Mavericks 44 points off the bench as MSU held a decisive 44-7 advantage from reserves.
