THIS WEEK: Minot State University women's basketball will host the program's first ever Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference/ Sanford Health Women's Basketball Tournament home playoff game as they will face off against Upper Iowa University on Wednesday Feb. 26 at 7 p.m.
RECORDS: The Beavers are 18-8 overall and 14-8 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play this season, placing them the No. 2 seed in the NSIC North Division. The Peacocks are just 5-21 overall this season, with a record of 4-18 inside the NSIC, placing them as they No. 7 seed in the NSIC South Division.
COACHES CORNER: Minot State's is coached by
Sheila Green Gerding. In her 19th season at the helm of the Beaver women's basketball program, Green Gerding has amassed an impressive 333-221 overall record. She has qualified Minot State for six NAIA National Tournaments over her career while also coaching 12 All-Americans both at the NAIA and NCAA Division II levels. Green Gerding has coached the Beavers to five 20-plus win seasons and with two more wins in 2013-14, she will make it six. The Peacocks are coached by Carol Russell, who is in her fourth season at the helm of the Peacock women's basketball program. Russell has an overall record of 15-92 during her time at UIU but also sports a career record of 178-171 as she coached eight seasons at University of Nebraska-Kearney. She was named Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Coach of the Year twice (2003, 2008) while also bringing UNK to five NCAA Division II National Tournaments.

RANKINGS: For the sixth consecutive week, Minot State received votes in the USA TODAY NCAA Division II Coaches' Poll. On the Feb.18 edition of the poll, MISU received three points in the poll. Upper Iowa did not receive any votes in the poll.
RECENT HISTORY: Minot State went 1-1 on the last regular season weekend of the 2013-14 season as they beat Minnesota State University Moorhead on Friday night, 79-56. Saturday evening the Beavers fell 59-49 to No. 22 Northern State University. MISU had all five starts score in double-digits in the win over MSUM but had just two players reach that mark in the loss to NSU. Upper Iowa lost both of their games this past weekend as their losing streak was extended to ten games. UIU fell 97-93 to Augustana College on Friday night before falling 78-56 to Wayne State College on Saturday afternoon. The Peacocks scored a season-high 93 points Friday, shooting 50.0 percent from the field and an impressive 88.9 percent (24-of-27) from the free throw line.
OVERALL SERIES: Minot State and Upper Iowa have only faced each other twice in their program's histories, both coming over the last two seasons when Minot State joined NCAA Division II and the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. MISU is 2-0 against the Peacocks, including a 77-67 win over UIU on Jan. 10 in Fayette, Iowa.
NOTING THE PEACOCKS: Over their past ten games, Upper Iowa University has struggled on the basketball court. During this stretch, the Peacocks are giving up an average of 82.2 points per game and being outscored by their opponents by an average of 17.4 points per game. UIU has not had a history of success on the road, as they have just a 8-90 overall record over the last seven seasons when playing away from Dorman Gymnasium. 2012-13 All-Conference player Whitney Kieffer leads UIU with 16.2 points per game while also pulling down 5.0 rebounds per game. Junior Lauren Buck is having a notable season with 10.0 points per game and a team-high 6.8 rebounds per game. Rebounding has been a strong point for Upper Iowa this season as they rank No. 8 in the Northern Sun plus 1.2 rebounding margin. However, UIU has struggled offensively, ranking No. 14 in the NSIC with 64.8 points per game on the season. The Peacocks have also struggled taking care of the ball as the lead the conference with 447 turnovers (17.2 turnovers per game).
IT'S TOURNAMENT TIME: For the first time in the two years as members of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, Minot State will host a home NSIC/Sanford Health Women's Basketball Tournament game. As the No. 2 seed in the North, MISU will face the No. 7 seed from the South, Upper Iowa University. The winers of the first round games will play the remaining of the tournament at the brand new Sanford Health Pentagon in Sioux Falls, S.D. from March 1-4.
ADDING TO HER LEGACY: After scoring a career-high 39 points and breaking the single-game scoring record and career scoring record on Feb. 15 against Southwest Minnesota State University,
Carly Boag (Sr., F, Tamworth, Australia) has continued to add on to her scoring legacy. Boag scored 29 points on the weekend on 12-of-26 shooting from the field. She now has 1,747 career points as a Minot State Beaver.

RECORD BREAKING YEAR:
Carly Boag (Sr., F, Tamworth, Australia) has put up some impressive numbers throughout her career and will go out as one of the best players in Minot State and NSIC history. Along with breaking the MISU scoring record, Boag broke the NSIC single-season scoring record with 460 points this season. The record was previously held by Jheri Booker (University of Minnesota Duluth, 2009-2010) with 431 points in conference games during a season. She is already the MISU career-rebounding leader and in the loss at Northern State, she recorded her 1,000th career rebounds. Boag is also just 40 rebounds away from breaking her own single-season rebounding record of 319 rebounds.

JONES GOES FOR CAREER-HIGH: In the 79-56 win over Minnesota State University Moorhead,
Alisha Jones (Sr., G, Killeen, Texas) had arguably her best game in a Minot State uniform. Jones scored a career-high 22 points on 10-of-14 shooting. She also dished out five assists, grabbed three rebounds and hit two 3-point shots in the win. Jones has scored 286 points during her senior year, nearly twice as many as she scored during his junior season (149).
DOUBLE-DOUBLE…NO TROUBLE: Both
Carly Boag (Sr., F, Tamworth, Australia) and
Christina Boag (Jr., F, Tamworth, Australia) recorded double-doubles over the weekend. Friday against MSUM, Carly scored 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in the win. It was Carly's fourteenth double-double on the season. Christina recorded hers on Saturday against NSU as she had 11 points and 12 rebounds, including season-high six offensive rebounds. It was her fourth double-double of the season.
KLOSE CALLS IT:
Morgan Klose (Jr., G, Fairview, N.D.) has made a 3-point field goal in 21-of-26 games during the 2013-14 season. In the five games she has failed to hit a 3-pointer, the Beavers have a record of just 1-4. Klose's ability to stretch the floor and the defense will be a key factor for MISU making a post-season run. So far this year, Klose has hit 43 3-point shots including a season-high five 3-points against Minnesota Duluth on Dec. 15.
DOME, SWEET DOME: The Minot State Dome has been a tough place for MISU opponents to play this season as they Beavers are 13-2 on their home court. The only losses came to No. 14 Wayne State College (Jan. 4) and St. Cloud State University (Jan. 18). In games played at the Dome, MISU is outscoring their opponents on average 77.3 to 67.8. The 13 home wins is the most a MISU women's basketball team has had in a season since the Beavers went a perfect 15-0 at home in the 2010-11 season.
LAST TIME AGAINST UPPER IOWA: In the Jan. 10 matchup between MISU and Upper Iowa, it was a highly competitive and close basketball game. The Beavers outscored UIU by five in each half to win by ten points, 77-67, but neither team had a lead of over 10 points until the final buzzer. All five Minot State starters scored in double-digits led by
Christina Boag (Jr., F, Tamworth, Australia) with 23 points while
Alisha Jones (Sr., G, Killeen, Texas) dished out seven assists while going 3-of-3 from beyond the arc. Whitney Kieffer led the Peacocks with 20 points while Sam Thrapp had 14 points and a season-high 12 assists in the loss.
BY THE NUMBERS
49: Minot State is coming off a game where they scored a season-low 49 points the road loss at Northern State. MISU's previous low was 57 in a loss against Wayne State College.
33: Upper Iowa's main scoring threat, Whitney Kieffer scored a career-high of 33 points on Feb. 15 vs. St. Cloud State. In the loss Kieffer was 13-of-24 shooting from the field.
