RECORDS: Minot State is 14-6 overall and 10-6 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play this season. Bemidji State University is currently 8-12 overall and 4-12 in the NSIC while Minnesota Crookston sits with a 8-12 overall mark and a 5-11 record in the Northern Sun.

COACHES CORNER: Minot State's is coached by Sheila Green Gerding. In her 19th season at the helm of the Beaver women's basketball program, Green Gerding has amassed an impressive 329-219 overall record. She has qualified Minot State for six NAIA National Tournaments over her career while also coaching 12 All-Americans both at the NAIA and NCAA Division II levels.   Bemidji State is coached by Mike Curfman. During his nine-year term as head coach, BSU has a record of 90-148. Curfman guided the Beavers to a top six finish and an appearance in the conference tournament in each of his first three seasons. In his first campaign (2005-06), he led BSU to a fifth place finish in the NSIC and hosted the first round of conference playoffs. The Golden Eagles are coached by Mike Roysland who is in his seventh season coaching women's basketball at UMC. Over his tenure Minnesota Crookston has a record of 63-145.

RANKINGS: For the fourth consecutive week, Minot State received votes in the USA TODAY NCAA Division II Coaches' Poll. On the Feb. 4 edition of the poll, MISU received three points in the poll. Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston did receive any votes in the poll.

RECENT HISTORY: For the second time this season, Minot State dropped a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference games away from the Minot State Dome. The Beavers fell to two teams receiving national votes as they were downed 68-63 by Concordia University, St. Paul on Friday Jan. 31 before they fell 80-62 to No. 23 Minnesota State at the Taylor Center in Mankato, Minn. The eighteen point loss is the second worst loss for the Beavers in the last 28 games. Bemidji State also fell in two road NSIC contests last weekend as they fell to Southwest Minnesota State University Friday Jan. 31 by the score of 76-64 then at the hands of University of Sioux Falls 82-73 on Saturday Feb. 1. Minnesota Crookston went 1-1 last weekend as they fell 84-74 at University of Sioux Falls before picking up their fifth NSIC win on the year, a 76-69 win over SMSU on Saturday Feb. 1.

OVERALL SERIES: Minot State holds a 5-4 all-time advantage over the Bemidji State women's basketball program. Prior to the 2013-14 season, the last win MISU had over BSU was in 1990-91 when coach Wes Luther and the Beavers took down Bemidji State 81-78. Minot State holds a strong 12-1 all-time advantage of University of Minnesota Crookston. Both teams were members of the North Dakota Collegiate Athletics Conference in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

NOTING THE BEAVERS: Bemidji State started the season 5-1 overall, but has posted just a 3-11 mark since Dec. 7, 2013. BSU has struggled putting the ball in the hoop as they rank second to last in the Northern Sun in field goal percentage with a 39.1 shooting percentage on the year. The Beavers have three players averaging double-digit points per game, led by Morgan Lee who averages 17.8 points per game. Lee also ranks eighth in the NSIC with 2.05 steals per game. Kate Warmack joined Lee in the 1,000 point club as she scored her 1,000th career point on Friday Jan. 31 at Southwest Minnesota State. Warmack is BSU's second leading scorer, averaging 16.6 points per game. Bemidji State has succeeded defensively in turning over opponents; they rank sixth in the NSIC forcing 17.5 turnovers per game.

NOTING THE GOLDEN EAGLES: University of Minnesota Crookston has historically struggled in NSIC play, averaging just seven conference wins over the last three seasons. It appears the Golden Eagles are on pace to reach that mark again as they have a 5-11 NSIC record with six conference matchups remaining. UMC is led by sophomore Katrina Moenkedick who averages 16.0 points per game and 7.4 rebounds per game, both are team-highs. Alexa Thielman is also a solid scoring threat as she averages 15.7 points per game and is shooting 49.1 percent from beyond the arc. As a team, UMC leads the entire Northern Sun and ranks tenth in NCAA Division II in 3-point field goal percentage shooting 38.4 percent. Rebounding has been an issue for the Golden Eagles, however as they rank second to last in the NSIC with a negative 3.8 rebounding margin. UMC has been outrebounded in 11 of their 16 NSIC games this season.

SEASON-LOWS: It was not a weekend to remember for Minot State women's basketball. During the losses to Concordia University, St. Paul and Minnesota State, the Beavers shot a season low (3-of-15) from beyond the arc in each game. Against the Golden Bears, MISU also recorded a season-low 11 assists, eight short of their season average. This season Minot State has scored below 70 points just four times with two of them coming in the past two games. MISU's record when scoring below 70 points this season is just 1-4.

TAKING IT OFFENSIVE: For the season however, Minot State is one of the best shooting teams in all of NCAA Division II. The Beavers currently ranked first in the NSIC and eleventh in NCAA Division II with a 46.7 field goal percentage. MISU also ranks third in the NSIC and eleventh in the nation in three-point field goal percentage with a 36.4 shooting percentage from beyond the arc.

TALE OF TWO HALVES: It looked like two different teams playing on the basketball court Friday Jan. 31 at the Gangelhoff Center in St. Paul, Minn. In the First half against Concordia, St. Paul, MISU managed to score just 19 points while shooting 20.6 percent from the floor. In the final 20 minutes, The Beavers scored 44 points and shot 48.6 percent from the floor while also outrebounding CU 23-15.

FAB FIVE: The Minot State starting five has been the same for 19-of-20 games during the 2013-14 season and they have shown their ability to carry the scoring load. However, the Beavers have all five starters score double-digits in the same game just twice this season, both were wins. This means that each starter can step up and anytime and become the scorer if the team needs them to be and the defense cannot just key on one or two players. For the majority of the season, Minot State is the only team in the NSIC to have five players average 10.0 or more points per game.

Minot State starting five points per game
Senior    Carly Boag           21.1 ppg
Junior    Christina Boag    12.5 ppg
Junior    Katie Hardy          11.7 ppg
Senior    Alisha Jones      11.2 ppg
Junior    Morgan Klose     9.9 ppg

ASSISTING OTHERS: From the beginning of the season, Minot State has been at the top of the Northern Sun and All of NCAA Division II in regards to assists per game as they currently average 19.3 assists per game as a team, first in the conference and fourth in the nation. In fact, with 386 assists through 20 games, the 2013-14 squad has already recorded more assists than each of the past two teams (2012-13, 323 assists, 2011-12: 334 assists).

WHERE THE BEAVERS STAND: With six games remaining before the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Tournament, Minot State currently sits in second place in the NSIC North Division and fifth place in NSIC overall standings. No. 22 Northern State leads the North with a 13-3 record, three games in front of the Beavers. To capture the North, MISU will likely need to win their six remaining games, including a season-finale matchup at Northern State in Aberdeen, S.D. on Feb. 22.

99 POINTS AWAY: Carly Boag (Sr., F, Tamworth, Australia) currently sits in third place on the Minot State women's basketball all-time scoring list with 1,612 career points, but that should soon change. Boag needs just eight points to surpass Kayla Blom for second all-time and is less than 100 points from passing Kendra Meyer as the program's most prolific scorer. She leads the Northern Sun in scoring so far this season, averaging 21.1 points per game. Boag has scored 421 points total 20 games into her senior season.
