Box Score BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Minot State men's basketball team used a nice 7-2 run to end the first half Friday night against Bemidji State, as they headed into the locker room down just five points.
MISU (7-14 Overall, 3-14 NSIC) struggled in the second half, however, as they were outscored 41-23 in the second half as they lost to Bemidji State (16-5 Overall, 13-4 NSIC) in Northern Sun play by a final score of 83-60.
"When you don't guard well and don't rebound, it's frustrating", said Minot State head coach
Matt Murken. "Even when we did defend well, it seems like they made plays, little hustle plays, to get a bucket and that can be demoralizing to your team."
It was BSU's ability to shoot and rebound the basketball that was the difference in the ball game. Bemidji State shot 53.3 percent from the floor for the game, including nine three-point shots while also outrebounding Minot State 42-25.
Brock Lutes, the Northern Sun's leading scorer put up 30 points against MISU on 10-of-18 shooting. Maxie Rosenbloom, the NSIC's leading rebounded also had a solid game for BSU with 12 points and a team-high 13 rebounds in the win.
Minot State had three players in double figures led by
Samuel Johnson (Sr., F, Las Vegas, Nev.) with 13 points and team-high five rebounds while
E.J. Williams (Sr., G, Raleigh, N.C.) had 12 points in the loss.
Dan Yale (So., G, Berthold, N.D.) scored a career-high eleven points in 26 minutes of playing time. Yale hit a team-high and career-high three three-point shots. However, for the team it was a poor night shooting the ball as MISU shot just 34.5 percent from the floor.
"We just need to make more plays," said Murken. "Obviously we are turning our attention to tomorrow, just like we would've done if we would have won. We have to get prepared to play a much better all around game."
Minot State will look to rebound Saturday night as they face University of Minnesota Crookston at 6 p.m. from Lysaker Gymnasium. MISU beat UMC on Jan. 24 by a score of 78-59.
