Box Score BEMIDJI, Minn. – It was a back and forth kind of game as Minot State battled Bemidji State on the hardwood at BSU Gymnasium Friday night.
Minot State (15-6 Overall, 11-6 NSIC) used two big runs in each half including an 18-3 second half run to beat BSU (8-13 Overall, 4-13 NSIC) 74-66 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play.
"We had a great team effort tonight", said Minot State head coach Sheila Green-Gerding. "We played extremely hard on both ends of the court. Our team defense was great and we look like an improved team. I am very proud of our overall effort."
Bemidji State was cold shooting the ball to start the game as they went just 4-of-26 from the field to start the game. MISU built a solid 25-12 advantage led by 10 first-half points by
Katie Hardy (Jr., F, Fairview, N.D.). However, BSU made a 12-2 run to end the half while cutting the Minot State lead to just three points.
Beginning with 16:11 left in the game is when Minot State took control. During a near six minute stretch, MISU made 8-of-9 field goals including three three-point shots to go on a 18-3 run that would all but seem BSU's fate of their second straight loss to Minot State.
Carly Boag (Sr., F, Tamworth, Australia) led the way for MISU with 22 points and 15 rebounds. With a made layup to give Boag her 11th and 12th points of the game, she became the second all-time leading scorer in Minot State women's basketball history, passing Kayla Blom with 1,620 career points.
Three other Minot State players hit double-digit scoring; Hardy had one of her best performances of the season with 20 points, six rebounds and five assists in the win.
Alisha Jones (Sr., G, Killeen, Texas) and
Christina Boag (Jr., F, Tamworth, Australia) also had solid games helping the Beavers to a win.
Jones notched 12 points two assists while grabbing six rebounds. Boag had a balanced stat line in 31 minutes of play; she scored 10 points, five rebounds and four assists in the win.
Minot State shot 49.2 percent for the game, compared to just 34.8 percent from BSU. They key was getting easy shots inside as MISU notched 36 points in the paint.
MISU will now attempt for the weekend sweep as they travel down U.S. Highway No. 2 to take on University of Minnesota Crookston Saturday evening at 4 p.m. from Lysaker Gymnasium.
