Beaver Men's Basketball Looks to Pick Up Pair of Wins at Home

(MINOT, N.D.) -- The Minot State men's basketball team will be back in the friendly confines of the MSU dome this weekend as they try to end a three-game skid and pick up their first conference victories of the season as they welcome Northern State and MSU Moorhead to town.

On Friday night, the Beavers take on Northern State at 7:30 p.m., with a 5:30 matchup against MSU Moorhead on Saturday evening.

Series History

 vs. Minnesota State Moorhead

  • Despite not winning a lot, the Beavers have turned it around, winning two of the last four matchups.

Beaver Tracks
  • The Beavers are currently 6-3 on the season after first, winning six straight contests, but now having lost three straight to open conference play.
  • In the pair of contests this past weekend against Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State, the Beavers had an icy shooting night against Duluth, causing the loss despite holding one of the top-scoring offenses in the conference to just 72 points.
  • In the game against St. Cloud State, it was back and forth contest that St. Cloud State was able to seal in the closing minutes. In that game, 54 of the Beavers 73 points came from Kyle Beisch and Max Cody.
  • Cody almost came away with a double-double against St. Cloud State, recording nine assists to go along with the career-high 26 points.
  • Beisch is fourth in the NSIC in scoring, averaging 19.6 points per game.
  • Kody Dwyer is shooting 79.7 percent on the season, leading the NSIC.
  • Currently, Minot State leads the NSIC in scoring defense, giving up 63.8 points per game.
  • The Beaver defense allows opposing teams to shoot 39.8% from the field and 27.9% from the three-point arc. Those numbers are third-best, and best in the conference.
  • The Beavers have a +8.9 margin in team points per game.

Scouting Report

     Northern State
  • Northern State has started the season 6-3, after losing their first two, and now winning six of their last seven, including a pair of conference matchups against Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston last weekend.
  • The Wolves had a balanced attack in their victory over Northern State, having eight players score seven or more points.
  • Parker Fox leads the Wolves. Fox averages 19.9 points per game which is third-best in the conference.
  • The Wolves shoot 47.5 percent from the field. That is the fifth-best mark in the Northern Sun.
  • Northern State struggles to stop three-point shooters as they allow teams to shoot 35.7% against them. That is 13th in the NSIC.
    Minnesota State Moorhead
  • The Dragons are not off to a great start, sitting at 5-4 after a pair of losses to Minnesota Crookston and Bemidji State last weekend.
  • MSU Moorhead got significant time contributions from Gavin Baumgartner, and Bryce Irsfeld this past weekend. Baumgartner scored almost half of the teams' points, scoring 31 against Minnesota Crookston. Meanwhile, Irsfeld scored 12 against Minnesota Crookston and 21 against Bemidji State.
