Offense Explodes, Beaver Baseball Splits Second Day at Missouri Western

GAME 1 | Minot State 11, Missouri Western State 0
 
Junior Zach Newman was dealing on Saturday, throwing a four-hit shutout to lead Minot State past Missouri Western State 11-0.
 
Newman (1-1) went the distance for Minot State (6-3), giving up four hits, walking none and striking out seven.
 
Senior Trevaun Smith led the way offensively for the Beavers, going 3-for-5 in the ballgame with a triple and two RBIs. Senior Ryley Humrighouse put together a standout day at the dish as well, going 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. Junior Matt Kruszka also helped out, going 2-for-4 for Minot State with a double and two RBIs.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Beavers took the lead for good in the first, scoring for the first time in the inning. Minot State's offense started clicking and put up seven runs, including a two-run triple off the bat of Smith and a two-run single from Humrighouse.
 
The Beavers also added runs in the third, fourth, and sixth innings on the way to the 11-0 victory.

GAME 2 | Missouri Western State 12, Minot State 7
Four Minot State players notched multiple hits, but the Beavers fell in the series finale to Missouri Western State 12-7 Saturday.

Junior Branden Hatley (1-1) came out of the bullpen for Minot State (6-4) and took the loss. Junior Jordan Chappell was a bright spot for the Beavers, coming out of the bullpen as well and throwing three innings, giving up one run on three hits, with no walks and two strikeouts.
 
Sophomore Jackson Pokorney led the hitting barrage for the Beavers, going 2-for-5 in the ballgame with a double and an RBI. Junior Declan Buckle put together a standout performance as well, going 2-for-5 with three RBIs.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Beavers got the scoring started early, first putting runs on the board in the first inning with the game still scoreless. Minot State plated two runs off of Missouri Western State pitching, one of which was driven in on a run-scoring double off the bat of freshman Gunnar Kozlowitz.
 
The Beavers lost the lead they built in the first, but got back on the board in the third trailing 5-2. Minot State scored once on an RBI single off the bat of senior Nolan Monthei, which brought the score to 5-3 in favor of the Griffons.
 
Minot State kept the Griffons off the board before rallying to grab a 6-5 lead in the fourth.   The Beavers added three runs in the frame, two of them coming across on a    two-run single off the bat of Buckle.
 
Minot State gave up the lead they built in the fourth, but got back on the scoreboard in the seventh trailing 12-6. The Beavers scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Monthei, tightening the Missouri Western State lead to 12-7. The Beavers were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
