MSU Women's Hoops Look to Snap Skid Against Golden Eagles at Home

MINOT, N.D. – The Beaver women's basketball team will finally enjoy their first home contests of the season when Minnesota Crookston this weekend. Minot State and the Golden Eagles will face off on Friday, January 22 at 6 p.m. and again on Saturday, January 23 at 2 p.m.
 
The Beavers have not seen any game action since January 9 due to COVID-19 cancelations. In their most recent contests, Minot State lost two games at Minnesota Duluth by scores of 83-65 and 72-57.  

COVID-19 Game Day Protocols
 
Facial coverings are required in the MSU Dome. Fans are reminded to follow CDC guidelines in the MSU Dome including; proper hand-washing, social distancing, and health information.

Fans and media are not permitted on the playing surface including the scorer's table. Attendance is capped at 1,000 fans and admission is free inside the MSU Dome. 

The NSIC will continue to monitor the landscape and conditions surrounding the pandemic, locally, regionally, nationally, and make any decisions or announcements, as necessary.

GAME NOTES

Series History  
  • Dating back to 1999, the Beavers lead the all-time series 10-9.
  • The Beavers have won four of the last six games against Crookston including a 77-66 victory a season ago.
  • Six of Minot State's 10 wins over the Golden Eagles have been in the confines of the MSU Dome.
  • Minnesota Crookston also won one of last season's contests as the two teams split the season series. 
Beavers by the Numbers
  • Amber Stevahn's scoring numbers have been phenomenal for the Beavers with an average of 15 ppg to lead the team. Those figures are the 12th-best in the NSIC.
  • Stevahn also leads the team on the glass with 20 total rebounds. Anna Counts and Calli Delsman are close behind with 19 each, and all three bigs average roughly four per game.
  • Kate Head continues to facilitate with 17 total assists and 4.3 APG. Her numbers rank third in the NSIC for that category.
Scouting Report 
  • Minnesota Crookston boasts a balanced offense with four scorers averaging double-figures. Jes Mertens (11.5 ppg), Kylie Post (10.3 ppg), Mary Burke (10.0 ppg), and Bren Fox (10.0 ppg) lead the way.
  • Mertens is not just an offensive player, however, as she has 29 total steals and is averaging nearly five swipes per game. She leads the league in that stat and is tied for second-best on a national level.
  • Burke is also 11-for-20 from three with a three-point shooting rate over 50%.
  • Post and Fox have been great on the boards with 4.5 RPG and 5.8 RPG, respectively.
  • Bren Fox has also been a force defensively with seven total blocks and almost two rejections per contest. Those numbers rank her second in the conference in that category.
  • Emma Carpenter has been the most generous guard for Crookston with nearly three assists per game.
