SPEARFISH, S.D. -- The Minot State track and field team had multiple athletes move up the Division II record books for both the men's and women's side on Saturday at the Dave Little Alumni Mile Invitational in Spearfish, S.D.
Headlining the day were big wins for the men's track and field team.
Nathan Trujillo-Aragon won the 60m hurdles for the second-consecutive week and the 4x400 team of
Lewis Cotterill, Trujillo-Aragon,
Chase Doty, and
Joseph Green sprinted to victory to win the relay with a time of 3:29.70. It marked the 8th-fastest relay in Minot State DII era history.
The day got underway with a 2nd-place finish for
Caitlin Cornell in the women's 5K with a time of 18:36.21 which is good for No. 6 in DII.
Linda Perez finished 5th in the same event with a time of 19:19.30 which is No. 9 in DII and
Lauren Reeves placed 8th with a time of 20:11.79.
Jacob Jensen followed it with another podium finish for Beavers track and field as he placed 3rd with a time of 15:39.86 in the men's 5K.
Tito Gonzalez finished 13th (16:53.56) and
Grayson Bonilla finished 17th (17:07.06).
In the women's mile,
Whitney Hanson took a step onto the podium for the third time in three competitions as she finished 2nd with a time of 5:15.58.
Abby McGee placed 5th with a 5:28.28 clocking.
Trestin Mancillas-Finnerty finished 2nd in the men's mile with a time of 4:25.62 which is good for No. 4 in DII.
Joseph Green set a personal record by three seconds with his 4th-place finish in the men's 400 and a time of 52.72 (No. 9 DII era).
On the women's side of the track in the 800m, Hanson earned her second podium finish of the day with a 2nd-place time of 2:22.91.
Emily Hansen finished 6th (2:29.62) and
Abby McGee placed 7th (2:30.82).
Logan Krueger set a season personal record with a 14.42 toss in the men's shot put which was good for a 5th-place finish.
Next on the docket was the men's 60m hurdles and Trujillo-Aragon earned his second win in that event in as many weeks with a time of 8.74. That time bested his previous run in the hurdles at Black Hills State last weekend (9.03).
Trujillo-Aragon moves up to No. 3 in the DII era for Minot State with his performance.
Ashley Miller earned her way onto the podium for the second time this season with a 3rd-place time of 27.42 (No. 3 DII) in the women's 200m.
Breanna Johns-Oster placed third in the shot put with an 11.85m toss.
Jessica Martinez finished third and set a new personal record with a time of 11:16.76 in the women's 3000.
