Minot State Women's Golf is 8th After First Round at NSIC Championship

MORTON, Minn. -- The Minot State University women's golf team is 8th entering the clubhouse after the first round at the NSIC Championship at Dacotah Ridge Golf Club in Morton, Minn. 

Minot State sits 10 shots back of Bemidji State for seventh place after the opening round. The Beavers hit for nine over on Par 3's with an average of 3.56, 40 over on Par 4's with an average of 5.00, and 11 over on Par 5's with an average score of 5.69. 

The Beavers are led by Taylor Cormier going into the clubhouse after the first 18 holes at the championship. Cormier is 12 over (84) after hitting for par on six of the opening nine holes during the front nine. Double bogeys on five and eight, and a triple bogey on 11 were the main trouble spots during her round today. 

Anya Ross posted a 14 over. Ross opened the front nine of today's first round with a birdie on seven but a triple bogey on 17 and a double bogey on 18 dropped her to 38th overall in the standings as she finished with an 86. 

Holly Knudsen is tied for 39th through the first 18 holes of play. Knudsen posted an 87 (+15) with three pars over the front nine and four pars on the back nine. 

Jaci Jones is 47th with a 91 (+19) during the first round of play. Jones reached par three times on the front nine and just once on the back nine.

The Beavers will be back in action with a shotgun start during the Second Round of play at the NSIC Women's Golf Championships from Dacotah Ridge Golf Course in Morton, Minn. The second 18-holes of the NSIC Championship will begin on Saturday morning with tee-time starts at 10 a.m. The third and final round will be a 9 a.m. shotgun start on Sunday.  The top five golfers will be named NSIC All-Tournament, while the team champion will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Regional.
