Double-Digit Podium Finishes Highlight NSIC Outdoor Championships for Beaver Track and Field

DULUTH, Minn. -- The Minot State University men's track and field team finished 8th with 31 points, and the women's track and field team finished 15th with 2.5 points at the NSIC Outdoor Championships in Duluth, Minn.

The Beavers earned 11 podium finishes and 17 NSIC medalists over the last two days at the NSIC Outdoor Championships at Malosky Stadium at the University of Minnesota Duluth. The men's team finished with 31 points for an 8th-place finish which is the highest since 2015.

Joseph Green finished on the podium three times for the Beavers with a fourth-place finish in the 200m with a time of 21.74 to set a program DII record and an unofficial Guam National Record. Green earned another podium with a 7th place finish and a personal record in the 400 meters with a time of 49.59. He qualified for the finals with a personal record (49.70) time and an 8th-place finish on the first day of action for the Beavers and surpassed his own personal record in the finals.

Head track and field coach Mark Del Monaco on the weekend performances. "What a day for our program. Three years ago we scored five points and so today to see how far we have come as a program was exciting  for not only myself but our assistant coaches and student-athletes. 11 podium finishes and 17 NSIC medalists, it was a great day for the Minot State Track and Field program."

Green was also a part of the 4x400m relay team that finished fourth with a time of 3:19.60 to cap the action on a high note for the Beavers on the track. That marked a season-best and helped the Beavers to their best finish at the NSIC Championships in six years.

Coach Del Monaco continued about Joseph Green. "Incredible day for Joseph. He stepped up in every way possible and I could not be more proud of him. As a freshman, to be competing at a high level in the sprinting events in the NSIC speaks volumes not only about where he is as an athlete but where he is going. Not only is he a great student-athlete but he is also a fantastic young man. We are proud to have him as a member of our program."

Leif Nelson had an impressive day as he finished second in the javelin with a throw of 62.18m and Ben Aasen finished 8th in the same event with a throw of 45.4m. Those performances added nine points to the Beavers team score early on the final day of action. Nelson earns All-Conference honors with the second-place finish.

Coach Del Monaco about the performance by Nelson. " Leif had a big performance. Probably his most consistent competition this year. All-Conference and runner-up speak volumes about what kind of competitor he is. He hit an NCAA provisional qualifier mark and personal record, so we'll cross our fingers and hope it's good enough to get into the NCAA meet in two weeks."

Nathan Trujillo-Aragon finished 8th in the men's 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.52.

The 4x100m relay as the team of Chase Doty, Kundai Mutungi, Nathan Trujillo-Aragon, and Chase Tandy finished 8th with a season-best time of 43.02.
