BEMIDJI, Minn. - Minot State men's golf team finds itself in contention for a season-opening title while the Beavers women's golf team sits in fourth place after the first day of the year as both teams were in action at the Bemidji State Invitational on Monday.
Consistency was key for the Beaver men's team as all four of their counting team scores were 4-over 75s on Monday at the par-71, 6,518-yard Bemidji Town and Country Club golf course. Minot State shot a team score of 16-over 300 and is tied with Concordia College (Minn.). NSIC foe Concordia-Saint Paul is one shot back of the front-runners with a 17-over 301.
On the women's side, the Beavers shot a 56-over 344 on the ladies' par-72, 5,919-yard course. They hold a 1-shot lead on NSIC foe Southwest Minnesota State, which is fifth, and a two-stroke edge on host Bemidji State, which is sixth. Augustana and Minnesota State, Mankato both shot 35-over 323s and lead the women's field with Concordia-St. Paul three shots back at 38-over 326.
Play in the season-opening event for Minot State continues Tuesday morning with a final 18 holes that will decide both the men's and women's team titles and individual crowns.
Consistent play on the men's side left four Beaver golfers tied for seventh individually at 4-over as
Andrew Makarchuk,
Carlos Caloca,
Easton Evanoff, and
Sid Ullyott all tied with 75s.
Aaron Grandy rounded out the scores for the Minot State team with a 16-over 87 and is tied for 49th.
Playing as individuals were Minot State's
Colton Horn, who shot a 12-over 83 and is tied for 45
th, and
Yashin Kapadia, who shot a 17-over 88 and his 51st.
On the women's side,
Anya Ross led Minot State as she shot 12-over 84 and it's tied for 14th. One shot behind her is teammate
Jaci Jones who carded a 13-over 85 and his tied for 17th, while
Taylor Cormier shot a 14-over 86 and his 22nd, and
Holly Knudsen rounded out the Beavers' scores as she shot a 17-over 89 and is 31st.
Augustana's Molly Stevens shot a 4-over 76 and leads the women's individual tournament by a stroke, while Ben Laffen from Minnesota State, Mankato shot an even-par 71 and leads the men's individual standings by one shot.
