Hali Lawrence recruit

Women's Hockey

Minot State women’s hockey adds star goalie, Hali Lawrence, from Alberta for fall 2022

MINOT, N.D. – In the midst of a stellar season on the ice, the Minot State women's hockey team continues to build toward a successful future, as well, by recruiting star prospects.

So, before the fourth-ranked Beavers hit the road for a crucial week-long trip against Top-10 foes, head coach Ryan Miner is pleased to announce that star goaltender Hali Lawrence, from Foothills, Alberta, has signed a National Letter-of-Intent and will be a freshman on the ice and in the classroom at Minot State in the fall of 2022.

"Hali is an elite goaltender in Western Canada, her numbers and experience show that," Miner said. "She comes from a strong program and has shown that she can compete in big games against top opponents. Her technical ability will fit right in with our current cohort of goaltenders.

"I look forward to Hali coming in and competing alongside our current three (Jordan Ivanco, Haylie Biever, and Morgan Baker) and using them as mentors as she continues to develop."

An honor-roll student-athlete at Foothills Composite High School who also plays golf and lacrosse, the 5-foot-7, left-handed Lawrence has a 9-3-1 overall record in 13 games this season with the Calgary Fire U18AAA team. She has a 1.30 goals against average, a .944 save percentage, and has posted three shutouts this season for the Fire in the Alberta Female Hockey League.

"I chose Minot State because of the great opportunities to further my education and to continue to develop as an athlete in a championship environment," said Lawrence, who recently earned the 2021 Top Goaltender Award at the North American Female Elite Showcase in Blaine, Minn.

The Minot State women's hockey team (14-3-0 overall, 6-1-0 WMCH) hits the road for six games in eight days against the top teams in the ACHA, playing at No. 3-ranked Lindenwood on Saturday and Sunday, at fifth-ranked McKendree on Tuesday and Wednesday, and at ninth-ranked Maryville on Jan. 21 and 22.
