MANKATO, Minn. – While only a handful of student-athletes hit the track for competition on Friday, the Beavers still made a splash thanks to sprinter
Joseph Green.
Green led the way for Minot State's track and field teams with a new school record in the men's 300 meters as the Beavers competed in just four events on the opening day of the Mark Schuck Open hosted by Minnesota State, Mankato.
The Beavers will be back in action Saturday as the indoor track and field meet hosted by the Mavericks is in full swing with competition beginning at 1 p.m.
Green led the way with a seventh-place finish on Friday in the 300 in 36.67 seconds, the fastest time in the event in Minot State history as he bested the previous top mark of 37.01 run by Josh Drew in 2017.
The Minot State women's distance runners added a top finish for the Beavers on the day in the distance medley relay as the quartet of
Paulette Dominguez,
Emily Hansen,
Monica Okopal, and
Caitlin Cornell were fourth overall in the event Friday in a time of 13 minutes, 11.34 seconds.
The Beaver men's distance medley also enjoyed a Top-10 finish as
Juan Gutierrez,
Trent Holiday,
Chase Tandy, and
Nick Merillana teamed up to finish eighth in 10:43.26 on Friday in the men's DMR, while Aubree Cuffe led the way for the Beaver women's sprinters, finishing 14th in 47.10 seconds in the women's 300 meters.
