GOLDEN, Colo. –
Joseph Green led the way with a victory in Colorado as the Minot State sprinter raced to the win in the men's 400 meters Saturday at the Colorado School of Mines Winter Classic.
Greens victory highlighted a weekend that saw the Minot State track and field teams competing in two states, as the majority of the Beaver student-athletes were in action in Fargo, N.D., at the North Dakota State Bison Open where women's throwers
Jenna Hardy and
Kori Nagel led the way with Top-5 finishes in the shot put.
Green won the 400 in a time of 52.33 seconds in Colorado, his fastest performance this winter in the event.
While his win led the way, Minot State also enjoyed two other Top-10 performances in Colorado as
Jacob Jensen was fourth in the mile in 4 minutes, 23.30 seconds, and
Lewis Cotterill was seventh in the 800 in 1:57.86.
While they set the pace in Colorado, back in North Dakota the Minot State women's throwers set the tone as Hardy was fourth in the shot put with a throw of 44 feet, 2.75 inches, and teammate Nagel was right behind her in fifth with a mark of 44-1.25.
While they led the way at the meet in Fargo,
Leif Nelson also had a Top-10 performance for the men's throwers, finishing 10
th in the shot put with a mark of 49-2.25.
Meanwhile on the track,
Emily Hansen and
Ashley Miller led the way as Hansen shaved nearly four seconds off her best time of the season in the women's 800 meters with a time of 2:26.55, good for 17
th on the day and a spot in the NSIC Top 20 in the event. Miller also shaved timed off her season-best in the 200 as she finished 14
th in 27.11.
The Minot State track and field teams return to action next Friday and Saturday once again compete at meets in two states, running and throwing at the South Dakota State Indoor Classic and the Grand Valley State Big Meet in Michigan.
