MSU Baseball set to take on Sioux Falls and Winona State

MINOT, N.D. – The Minot State baseball team is set to play a doubleheader at the University of Sioux Falls on Thursday, March 24, with first pitch scheduled at 1:30 p.m. Following the doubleheader, the Beavers are back on the road this coming weekend, playing a three-game series at Winona State on Saturday, March 26 and Sunday, March 27. 
 
Minot State opened conference play against Minnesota State University-Mankato and finished the series 1-2. The Beavers enter the upcoming series with a 7-11 record overall and a 1-2 record in NSIC play. 

 
Corralling the Cougars 
The Beavers begin the road trip against the University of Sioux Falls, who finished .500 last season with a record of 21-21 overall.  The Cougars enter the doubleheader with a record of 10-8 (2-1 NSIC). Minot State has faced Sioux Falls 27 times in program history and has secured wins in 16 of those games. Noah Christenson leads the Cougars offensively, hitting .403 on the 2022 season. Christenson is ranked fourth overall currently in the NSIC in batting average. 

Watching the Warriors 
The Beavers will then face Winona State University in a 3-game series to round out the weekend. The Warriors are off to a sluggish start in 2022, with a record of 2-9 overall thus far. The Warriors are 1-1 in the last two games, falling to Florida Tech and beating University of the Sciences. Minot State is 11-9 in program history against Winona State entering the weekend.  
 
Prominent Pitching
 
Senior pitcher, RJ Martinez, led the Beavers in the series against Mankato, throwing seven shutout innings while giving up three hits and walking two. Sophomore pitcher Trevyn Badger also helped in the 13-inning victory last weekend, throwing three shutout innings while striking out four and only allowing one hit. 
 
Bashing Beavers 
In the batter's box, Minot State has been led by Kaiden Cardoso, who is batting .364 on the season, with 12 runs. Senior Drew Behling follows close behind with a .320 average and five home runs. Behling has also tacked on 19 runs as well as 19 RBIs this season.
