LONG BEACH, Calif.- The MSU Beaver Track and Field teams traveled to California to participate in the Bryan Clay Invitational hosted by Azusa Pacific and the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate Meet hosted by Long Beach State. The Beavers had a highly successful day as multiple school records were broken and NCAA provisional marks were met. The Beavers went up against many schools ranging from NCAA division one status all the way to NAIA schools.
Highlighting the day for the Beavers at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate is
Leif Nelson as he continues his hot streak in javelin, this time setting the new school record set back in 2015 by Cody Schmidt. Nelson threw 64.04 meters surpassing the previous record by almost 2 inches. With the throw today Nelson currently ranks 10th in the nation and 1st in the NSIC.
Another impressive feat for the Beavers this time at the Bryan Clay Invite is
Paulette Dominguez who broke the division two school era record in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 18:11.94.
At the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate
Joseph Green finished 19th in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.53 seconds. Nelson also placed 44th in discus by throwing 44.23 meters while placing 42nd in shot put throwing 13.65 meters.
At the Bryan Clay Invite Nicholas Merillana competed to a 53rd place finish in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 14:54.42 while
Trent Holiday took 77th in the same event with a time of 15:17.23. In the 800 meter run the Beavers had two finishers;
Lewis Cotterill at 130th place with a time of 1:54.05 and
Juan Gutierrez who finished 165th place with a time of 1:56.38.
The Beavers will continue tomorrow in action at the Beach Invitational also hosted by Long Beach State and the Bryan Clay Invitational.
