VERMILLION, S.D.- The Minot State men's and women's track and field teams competed in the first day of the South Dakota Challenge hosted by the University of South Dakota. The day's events included 400 meter hurdles, 3,000 meter steeplechase, 1,500 meter run, 800 meter run, and the 5,000 meter run.
The first event for the Beavers was the men's 3,000 meter steeplechase as Camden Jasmin took 13th place with a time of 10:12.86. In the women's 1,500 meter run the Beavers had two finishers with
Paulette Dominguez leading in 11th place with a time of 4:58.22, while
Jessica Martinez rounded out the Beavers with a 16th place finish with a time of 5:05.15. In the men's side of the 1,500 meter run the Beavers saw
Casey McMahon take home 32nd place with a time of 4:29.82 and rounding out the Beavers is
Grayson Bonilla two spots behind at 34th place with a time of 4:31.39.
There were three Beaver finishers in the women's 800 meter run led by
Emily Hansen who finished 25th with a time of 2:29.18.
Monica Okopal and
Sidra Sadowsky rounded out the 800 meter run for the Beavers each with a 39th place and a 44th place finishes with times of 2:41.84 and 2:47.69, respectively. The men's 800 meter run had the Beavers first top-10 finish as
Lewis Cotterill finished 8th with a time of 1:55.51. Three more Beavers finished in the 800 meter run as
Juan Gutierrez finished 20th with a 1:58.23 time followed by
Jacob Jensen with a 1:58.34 time good enough for a 22nd place, and rounding out the Beavers is
Trent Holiday who took 36th place with a 2:01.77 time.
The Beavers will be back at the Lillibridge Track Complex again tomorrow as the Beavers participate in day two of the South Dakota Challenge.
