INDIANOLA, IOWA: The Minot State men's and women's track and field teams participated in the Kip Janvrin Invite hosted by Simpson College on Friday. The Beavers also had a lone participant at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa hosted by Drake University. The Beavers saw another school record be broken twice in roughly 30 minutes as well as a gold medal performance for a relay team.
The lone participant in the Drake Relays was
Leif Nelson who participated in javelin bringing home 15th place with a throw of 55.90 meters.
The men's 4x400 meter relay consisting of
Jaylan Brown,
Juan Gutierrez,
Kameron Toms, and
Lewis Cotterill took first place with a time of 3:21.36.
The Beavers saw
Samuel Kreins break the school record in shot put throwing 14.70 meters which may as well be the shortest reign of a school record in school history as
Corbin Harris took over the record 30 minutes later throwing 14.71 meters. Harris took 12th place and Kreins took 14th on the day in shot put.
In the women's 100 meter dash
Ashley Miller the lone participant took home 20th place with a 12.84 second time and Miller was the lone participant for MSU in the 200 meter dash finishing 15th with a time of 26.56 seconds. In the only other track event on the women's side
Paulette Dominguez nabbed 30th place thanks to a 18:23.43 performance and
Jessica Martinez rounded out the track side for MSU with a 52nd place and a 19:14.45 performance. There was a top 5 finisher in women's discus as
Kori Nagel took home 4th place thanks to her throw of 44.01 meters.
Chloe Gunderson took home 13th place with a throw of 39.53 meters while
Jenna Hardy and Rebecca Eacker took 23rd and 25th each with throws of 35.79 meters and 35.48 meters, respectively. In the women's hammer throw Nagel took 18th place with a throw of 42.25 meters and
Jenna Hardy took 34th place with a throw of 36.47 meters. Hardy, Nagel, and Gunderson all finished back-to-back-to-back in shot put all throwing withing .15 meters of each other. Hardy led the Beavers in 12th place throwing 12.31 meters while Nagel finished in 13th with a throw of 12.25 meters and Gunderson finished in 14th with a throw of 12.16 meters. Alician Garcia rounded out shot put for MSU in 26th place and a throw of 11.41 meters.
In the men's 100 meter dash
Joseph Green finished 15th with a time of 11.01 seconds. The men's 200 meter dash saw Toms lead the group of four Beavers as Toms took home 11th with a 22.15 second time. Green wasn't far behind finishing with a time of 22.78 seconds good enough for 21st place which was followed by Brown's 23.16 second 27th place and rounded out by
Damian Nino who placed 29th with a time of 23.22 seconds. In the men's 400 meter dash the two Beaver participants were neck and neck as Nino outpaced Brown by about 30 miliseconds as Nino finished in 19th with a 51.62 second time and Brown finished in 22nd place with a 51.97 second time. The men's 800 meter run saw a top 5 finisher for the Beavers as Cotterill took home 5th place thanks to his 1:52.76 time. Following Cotterill was Gutierrez in 11th place with a 1:53.97 time and then Nicholas Merillana with a 1:58.60 time and 40th place and rounding out MSU is
Trent Holiday in 76th with a time of 2:02.48. There was another top 10 finisher for MSU this time in the 1,500 meter run as
Jacob Jensen finished 8th with a time of 3:56.07. The men's 3,000 meter steeplechase saw Camden Jasmin take 34th place with a time of 10:19.15. In the 5,000 meter run Merillana led MSU with a 50th place finish and a time of 15:26.03 while Holiday and
Grayson Bonilla finished the Beavers with 93rd and 94th place finishes and times of 16:13.48 and 16:13.70, respectively.
On the men's field side in the discus throw
Hunter Clark led the way in 27th place for the Beavers thanks to his 38.31 meter throw.
Paul Hardy and Harris both weren't far behind with throw of 37.71 meters and 37.58 meters good enough for 29th and 32nd places, respectively. Kreins rounded out the discus in 41st place with a throw of 35.32 meters. Kreins did lead the Beaver charge in hammer throw throwing 48.24 meters for 19th place which was followed by a 29th place performance by Clark at 45.40 meters. Harris wasn't far behind in 30th place and a 44.17 meter throw and Hardy throwing 38.12 meters good enough for 43rd place.
The Beavers will now turn their attention back to the home state as they take a much shorter trip to Dickinson, N.D. for the DSU Last Chance Meet hosted by Dickinson State on Thursday May 5th. MSU will also participate in the Oxy Invite on Saturday May 7th hosted by Occidental College in Los Angeles, Calif.
