BISMARCK, N.D.- The Minot State men's and women's track and field teams took to the circle to try and flex on some more well-known competition at the Al Bortke Open, hosted by the University of Mary. The Beavers competed against competition from host Mary, Dickinson State, Valley City State, North Dakota State, Minnesota State Moorhead, and Jamestown.
The Beavers were led by Nagel who received 4th in the hammer throw with a throw of 47.65 meters on top of getting a 2nd place finish in discus while setting an NCAA d2 school record and receiving an NCAA provisional mark with 47.42 meters. Nagel capped off her day with another strong performance in shot put securing 4th place with a 12.97 meter throw.
On the women's side the Beavers also received a 6th place finish from
Ashley Miller in the 200 meter dash with a 25.95 second time. MSU had two representatives in the 800 meter run from 5th place finisher
Emily Hansen with a time of 2:24.66 and
Jessica Martinez in 10th with a time of 2:31.58. The Beavers also showed up in the 1500 meter run thanks to
Paulette Dominguez who nabbed 2nd place with a time of 5:03.32. The Beavers also scored a 6th place finish in shot put thanks to
Chloe Gunderson who threw 12.52 meters, while
Jenna Hardy also finished in the top 10 with an 8th place finish with a throw of 11.68 meters. Aside from Nagel the Beavers also saw Gunderson and Hardy finish in the top 10 in discus as well with 6th place Gunderson throwing 42.08 meters and 7th place Hardy throwing 39.93 meters.
Tori Nygard finished right behind Nagel at 5th in the hammer throw nabbing a 46.16 meter throw. Nygard also stole 2nd place in the javelin throw securing a 37.20 meter throw.
Moving onto the men's side the Beavers saw
Joseph Green take 8th place in the 200 meter run with a time of 22.08 seconds.
Kameron Toms also nabbed 10th place in the 200 meter run with a time of 22.25 seconds. Three Beavers nabbed top 10 finishes in the 400 meter run led by Green in 4th with a 51.32 second run, followed closely by 6th place finisher
Damian Nino with a 51.64 second time, and rounding out the top 10 Beavers is 8th place finisher
Jaylan Brown with a time of 52.25 seconds.
Leif Nelson continued his hot streak by taking 6th in shot put with a 13.91 meter throw.
Corbin Harris and
Samuel Kreins each finished 8th and 9th respectively with 13.87 meter and 13.78 meter throws respectively. Nelson and Harris each placed in the top 10 for discus as well as Nelson placed 5th with a 45.08 meter throw while Harris placed 8th with a 42.61 meter throw. Three more Beavers placed in the top 10 in the hammer throw led by 5th place finisher Kreins with a 47.93 meter throw, while
Hunter Clark finished one spot behind at 6th with a 45.57 meter throw, and Harris placed 8th with a 41.37 meter throw. The lone Beaver participant in Javelin placed first as Nelson compelted his recent Javelin dominance by throwing a 58.74 meter mark which also qualifies as an NCAA provisional mark.
The Beavers will head back to Minot before a huge weekend next week as they travel to California to participate in the Mt. Sac Relays, Pacific Coast Intercollegiate, Bryan Clay, and Beach Invitational meets all hosted by Long Beach State and Azusa Pacific in Azusa, Long Beach, and Walnut, California.
