DICKINSON, N.D. – The Minot State track and field teams fine-tuned their craft on Thursday by claiming five event victories, which included some impressive event sweeps of the top spots of the podium at the Dickinson State Last Chance outdoor track and field meet.
The Beaver women's throwers led the way with a powerful performance as
Jenna Hardy won the shot put, leading a Minot State sweep of the top four marks. Hardy won with a throw of 41 feet, 11.25 inches while
Chloe Gunderson was second with a throw of 39-11.5,
Kori Nagel was third with a mark of 39-10.75, and Alician Garcia was fourth with a distance of 39-3.75.
In the discus, Nagel led a sweep of the top three spots for the Beavers with her winning effort of 144-3. Gunderson was second at 130-3 and Rebecca Eacker was third with a throw of 124-3.
Hardy added a second-place finish in the hammer throw of 143 feet, 4 inches, and
Tori Nygard was second in the javelin with a mark of 120-5.
While the Minot State women throwers dominated, so did the Beaver men's middle-distance runners as they turned in one-two finishes in both the 400 and 1,500 meters
Jaylan Brown and
Damian Nino dominated the 400 meters as Brown won the event in 51.30 seconds and Nino was second in 51.42, while in the metric mile
Casey McMahon was the winner in 4 minutes, 25.14 seconds and
Grayson Bonilla was second in 4:31.10.
Minot State added one more win on the day as
Jessica Martinez was the fastest of all the ladies in the women's 1,500 meters in 5:05.17.
Minot State added plenty of other top-3 finishes at the meet as
Ashley Miller was second in the women's 100 in 12.60 and third in the 200 in 26.37, and
Samuel Kreins led the Minot State men's throwers as he was second in the hammer with a throw of 158-3, just in front of teammate
Hunter Clark who was third with a mark of 156-0. Kreins also was third in the shot put with a throw of 47-2.5, and
Leif Nelson was third in the discus with a mark of 137-5.
The meet was the final tune-up for the majority of the Beaver track and field student-athletes who now look ahead to the NSIC Outdoor Track & Field Championships to be held May 12-14 at Swisher Field in Aberdeen, South Dakota.
A small group of Minot State men's distance runners will get one more chance to compete before the NSIC Championships as the race at the Oxy Invitational in California on Saturday.
