DES MOINES, Iowa –
Annika Gotlieb came within a win of the Beavers first title on Saturday, racking up three wins by pin to earn a spot in the 136-pound final at the Grand View Open tournament.
Gotlieb pinned Paige Baker from North Iowa Area Community College in 1 minute, 20 seconds, pinned Madison Wilcox of Quincy in 1:16, and pinned Corrie Williams from Snow College in 1 minute to earn her title shot before falling by pin in the second round.
Her runner-up finish was the top performance for Minot State in the women's wrestling team's regular-season finale. Next up, Minot State competes at regionals in Colorado, Feb. 18-19.
Also turning in a strong effort at 123 pounds was
Jazmin Gorder who was fourth as she picked up four wins en route to the third-place match.
Gorder won by tech fall, 12-2, over Cheyenne Mulford from Cornell, then after a loss, she won by pin over Sydney Tajkowski in 32 seconds, then picked up an injury default victory.
Gorder added one more win, by forfeit, earning a spot in the third-place match before settling for fourth place when she lost by pin.
Also competing in the tournament was
Zoe Desloges at 116 pounds, who picked up a win by tech fall, 10-0, over Ali Anderson, and
Madison Parson at 191 pounds.
