Herbin 4th for Minot State women’s wrestling at Region VI Tournament

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Minot State's Aniya Herbin finished 4th in the 207-pound weight class at the NCAA Region VI Women's Wrestling Tournament, the top finish for the Beavers, who placed 13th as a team with 20 points.

Herbin found herself in the championship semifinals on Sunday, but a loss by technical fall in the semifinals sent her into the consolation bracket, where she battled back with a win by pin in 5 minutes, 22 seconds over Grace Johns from Fort Hays State, earning a spot in the 3rd-place match.

There, Herbin's run came to an end as she was pinned late in the match by Esther Peters from Chadron State, finishing the weekend one win shy of an automatic berth to the NCAA National Tournament.

Herbin now will wait and see if she gets an invitation as an alternate to nationals.

Also in action for the Beavers on Sunday, the final day of action at the Region VI Tournament, was Madilyn Schuck, who competed in a consolation match in the 180-pound weight class. Schuck came up short in her battle with Maggie Smith from Colorado Mesa, ending her run at regionals.

The regional tournament wraps up the Minot State women's wrestling season.
