Minot State will have two wrestlers competing on the final day of the NCAA Region VI Tournament as the Beavers look to secure berths to nationals. Wrestling resumes Sunday at 11 a.m., with both
Madilyn Schuck (180 pounds) and
Aniya Herbin (207 pounds) still in contention.
At 180 pounds, Schuck powered her way into the consolation semifinals with a strong bounce-back performance. After opening with a 6-1 decision over Aliyah Villarreal of Sioux Falls, Schuck moved into the consolation bracket following a loss to McKendree's Destiny Rodriguez. She responded in dominant fashion, earning a 10-0 technical fall over Briseis St. John of Adams State to keep her season alive. Schuck will now face No. 6 seed Maggie Smith of Colorado Mesa in the consolation semifinals. To finish third and claim a berth to nationals, Schuck must win three straight matches.
At 207 pounds, Herbin sits just one win away from punching her ticket to nationals. She advanced to the championship semifinals after securing a pin over Esther Peters of Chadron State in 4:39. Herbin will now take on No. 1 seed Tristan Kelly of McKendree in the semifinals. A win would guarantee Herbin a spot at nationals and move her into the regional championship match.
