MINOT, N.D. – Coming off a successful debut season, the Minot State women's wrestling program is ready for an action-packed second season on the mats, a season that'll see much more action in the MSU Dome.
Second-year head coach
Brittney Mitchem is pleased to announce the Beavers' 20223-24 schedule which gets underway in earnest on November 11 at the Life University Open in Georgia, a schedule that features two tournaments hosted by Minot State along with four other home duals matches throughout the winter.
Prior to the official start to the season, the Beavers will compete on Sunday, Oct. 29, at 2 p.m. in their annual preseason intersquad dual at the MSU Dome.
"I am excited for this season's schedule," Mitchem said. "We were able to host more home events this year with a total of six events, whereas last year we only had three events.
"The growth of the sport is just continuing in our area and we are excited to compete against schools that are much closer to us; those teams include Dickinson State and Sioux Falls," Minot State's coach added. "Hopefully we can keep moving in the direction of becoming a conference sport where my team is guaranteed a home and away dual. This is why we need more schools to add women's wrestling! It would help us build our schedule and make the travel even across the board."
The first official home event will be year-two of the Beaver Bash Duals starting at 9 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 17, at the MSU Dome.
Then the Beavers hit the road for several events starting with duals at Jamestown on Nov. 27 and Sioux Falls on Nov. 30, then the Jamestown Open on Saturday, Dec. 2.
Back in dual action, Minot State competes at Dakota Wesleyan on Dec. 7 and at Chadron State on Dec. 10 to wrap up the first half of its schedule.
After taking a break for the Christmas and New Year's holidays, the Beavers return to action in Nebraska, competing at the Hasting Open on Jan. 8, then compete closer to home with a dual at Dickinson State on Jan. 10.
The action then heats up at the MSU Dome with four straight home dates starting with the first open tournament hosted by the Beavers, the MSU Open starting at 9 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 14, at the MSU Dome.
Minot State then hosts Jamestown at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 17, then hosts a tri-dual as Chadron State and Dakota Wesleyan come to the MSU Dome on Thursday, Jan. 25. Action for the Beavers is slated to start at 4 p.m. that day.
The Beavers then wrap up a busy two-week stretch at home hosting Sioux Falls on Friday, Jan. 26, at 5 p.m. before wrapping up the regular season at the Grand View Open on Feb. 3.
Then it's time for the postseason as the Beavers compete at the National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championships (NCWWC) Regional Tournament the weekend of Feb. 23-24, then plan to be back at the NCWWC National Tournament held March 9-10 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, this season.
