DICKINSON, N.D. – Minot State hurdler
De'Andre Cornwall did it again: With emphasis.
And teammate Jasiah Hambria matched her performance leading the way for the Minot State men.
Cornwall not only broke her own NCAA Division II-era school record in the women's 100-meter hurdles, but smashed it, along with the all-time Minot State record and hit an NCAA provisional qualifying mark as she finished second at the Blue Hawks Games track and field meet hosted by Dickinson State on Friday.
Hambria did the same in the men's high jump, but added a win, as he cleared a career-best 6 feet, 11.75 inches that broke his own NCAA D-II era outdoor record by 5 inches and bested the Minot State all-time best of 6-11 cleared by Zach Ryan in 2011.
Also an NCAA provisional qualifying mark, Hambria is now tied for 29
th in the nation.
As for Cornwall, she clocked a time of 14.14 seconds to finish second behind just Tia Horning of Mary by a hundredth of a second (14.13).
But Cornwall was second to none in Minot State history as she crushed her own personal-best time of 14.63 seconds from a week ago and broke the all-time record of 14.44 seconds clocked by Mario Henke in 1993. Her time ranks her No. 21 in the nation.
While Cornwall's NCAA qualifying performance led the way for the women, the Beavers also saw standout efforts from distance runners
Bailey Wride and
Sidra Sadowsky who each won their respective event, the 1,500 meters and 800, while Summer Kresbach came within a .02 seconds of another record in the 100 as she finished second in the 200 and third in the 100.
Wride won the 1,500 meters in 4 minutes, 52.79 seconds, Sadowsky won the 800 in a season-best time of 2:16.59, and Krebsbach was second in the 200 in 25.92 and third in the 100 in 12.34.
Cornwall and Krebsbach teamed up with
Camryn Adams and
Macey Moore to add one more highlight for the Beaver ladies as the 4x100-meter relay team brought home the win in 48.87 seconds.
While Hambria's NCAA mark set the tone on the men's side,
Devontae Daley won the men's 400 meters in 49.25 seconds and
Ramon Duran won the 400 hurdles in 53.52.
Peyton Tuhy and
Samuel Kreins added second-place finishes in the 1,500 meters and shot put, respectively, as Tuhy clocked a career-best time of 4:01.19 and Kreins turned in a throw of 50-1.75.
The Minot State track and field teams will be back in action next week, once again competing at a meet close to home as they head to Fargo for the Bison Open hosted by North Dakota State next Friday.
