BISMARCK, N.D. – Beaver hurdler
De'Andre Cornwall already wrote her name into the Minot State record books this season with an NCAA qualifying mark: Thursday she bested both.
Second only to an NCAA Division I competitor from the University of North Dakota, Cornwall finished as runner-up in the women's 100-meter hurdles at the U-Mary Classic on Thursday in 14.12 seconds which shaved fractions of a second off her own all-time school record of 14.14 seconds she clocked two weeks earlier.
The time also moved Cornwall to No. 26 in the nation in the event, which was won by North Dakota's Malene Kollberg in 14.09 on Thursday.
While Cornwall set a new Beaver record, but missed out on the win, the Minot State men's team added five wins Thursday as
Devontae Daley,
Ramon Duran,
Jasiah Hambira, and
Samuel Kreins each won an individual event and the quartet of Duran,
Deandre Elliot,
Francis Short Bull, and
Micah Earnest won the men's 4x400-meter relay.
Minot State's relay team won with a season-best time of 3 minutes, 26.10 seconds while Daley won the men's 400 meters in a season-best time of 48.72 seconds, and Duran won the men's 400 hurdles in a season-best time of 53.44 seconds.
Adding to the victory total were Hambira and Kreins as Hambira won the men's high jump clearing 6 feet, 9.75 inches while Kreins won the shot put with a throw of 50-2.75.
Devan Daniels added one more season-best effort for Minot State in the men's 100-meter dash as he was 5th at the meet in 10.80 seconds.
The Minot State women added a few more top performances on the day as the quartet of Cornwall,
Summer Krebsbach,
Autumn Wright, and
Tandy Plainichek finished 2
nd in 49.66 in the 4x100 relay, and
Grace Loftus added a 3
rd-place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 30 feet, 8.5 inches.
The Beaver track and field teams will be back in Bismarck next week for their final regular-season meet, competing at the Marauders-Mystics Tune Up, then head to the NSIC Championships hosted by Minnesota State, Mankato, on May 9-11.
