Minot State baseball splits Sunday, wins weekend series against Winona State

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 TUCSON, Ariz. – The Beavers closed out two weeks in the Arizona sunshine with a split of an NSIC doubleheader on Sunday, giving Minot State a conference series win over Winona State.

Playing their second neutral-site conference weekend, the Beavers fell 8-0 in the opener then the offense backed back strong with leading the way to a 16-5 win in 7 innings over the Warriors to wrap up the weekend.

Minot State (10-6 overall, 5-3 NSIC) swept the two teams' NSIC doubleheader on Saturday.

The Beavers now return to the Midwest and continue NSIC play next weekend with doubleheaders at Wayne State on Saturday and Sunday.

Brent Riddle and Oscar Pegg led the way on the day and provided a one-two punch at the plate as Riddle went 5-for-8 and Pegg was 6-for-8 with two solo home runs in the nightcap, which was shortened to 7 innings via the 10-run mercy rule.

The day started with the Warriors in control, though, as the Beavers collected just six hits and could not push a run home. Winona State plated six in the third and two in the fourth for the win.

The Beavers battled back in the nightcap right from the start with a three-run top of the first inning, then never looked back, going up 7-1 in the second inning, and after plating a pair of runs in both the third and fourth innings, held an 11-1 advantage on route to the win.

Noah Madas drove in 6 runs in the nightcap as he went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles, Michael Williams was 2-for-5 with 2 RBIs, and Jake Orthner was 2-for-2 with 3 RBIs in the victory.

Wyatt Toth (1-2) earned his first collegiate win as he went 5 innings and allowed 4 runs, 3 earned, while striking out 2.

Complete stats were not available late Sunday night.
