MINOT, N.D. — The Minot State women's basketball team heads back on the road this week as Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play continues following a split during last weekend's home slate at the Minot State University Dome.
The Beavers enter the week with a 9-12 overall record and a 6-8 mark in NSIC action after a narrow loss to Augustana on Friday and a bounce-back victory over Wayne State on Saturday.
Minot State opened the weekend with a 59-54 loss to Augustana despite a strong defensive performance. The Beavers limited the Vikings to just 38.3 percent shooting from the field and 18.2 percent from three-point range. Tiyahna Trottier and Taryn Hamling led Minot State with 14 points apiece, while Maya Aguilar added four steals. The Beavers connected on eight three-pointers in the contest and held the lead late before Augustana closed the game on a decisive run.
Saturday saw Minot State respond with a 68-61 win over Wayne State. Lara Dobbins paced the Beavers with 17 points and seven rebounds, while Trottier and Aguilar each added 14 points. Aguilar knocked down four three-pointers as Minot State again finished with eight made threes on the night.
The Beavers' defense set the tone, holding Wayne State to just 15.8 percent shooting from beyond the arc and forcing 20 turnovers, which were converted into 25 points on the offensive end. Minot State took control in the second half and extended its lead in the fourth quarter before closing out the home victory.
Across the weekend, Minot State's perimeter defense and three-point shooting stood out, while the team showed resilience in responding to Friday's setback.
This week, the Beavers return to the road for two conference matchups. Minot State will travel to face Concordia–St. Paul on Friday, January 30, with tipoff scheduled for 5:30 p.m., before taking on Winona State University on Saturday, January 31, at 3:30 p.m. as NSIC play continues.
