Zach Hendrickson and freshman
Kasen Rostad each carded 2-over 74s on Monday as the Minot State men's golf team returned to the course for the first tournament of the spring.
Hendrickson and Rostad sit tied for 28
th as they led the Beavers, who as a team turned in a score of 15-over 303 and are 9
th in the field at the Maverick Desert Classic hosted by Minnesota State, Mankato, at the Palm Valley Golf Club in Arizona.
Washburn (Kan.) leads the tournament field after the first day by four strokes as the Ichabods shot a 9-under 279.
Ten players carded a 3-under 69 for Monday's first round and head into Tuesday's final round tied for the individual tournament lead.
While Hendrickson and Rostad led the Beavers, Minot State also saw
Gunther Soltvedt add a 4-over 76 to its team score, as he sits tied for 47
th with teammate
Cameron Schwab, who, playing as an individual, also carded a 4-over 76 on Monday.
Gage Olson and
Max Karnik were next for Minot State as each shot 7-over 79s, counting toward the Beavers' team score, and are tied for 63
rd.
Minot State's
Fischer Johnson and Joshua Lindbo, who played as individuals, shot 13-over 85 and 16-over 88, respectively, and are 81
st and 83
rd in the tournament standings.
