The Minot State Baseball team continues conference play this weekend in a unique road setting, traveling to Kearney, Nebraska to "host" Wayne State in a three-game NSIC series. The Beavers and Wildcats open with a doubleheader Friday at noon, followed by a single game Saturday, also beginning at noon.
Minot State enters the weekend 11-16 overall and 6-11 in NSIC play, looking to build momentum after a split doubleheader against Jamestown earlier this week. The Beavers showed resilience in the opener, erupting for six runs in the sixth inning to secure a 9-5 comeback victory.
Vinnie Gates led the charge with a 3-for-4 performance, while
Colton Bagshaw and
Mike Williamson each contributed multiple hits in the win.
The nightcap proved to be another tightly contested battle, as Minot State battled back to tie the game late before falling 3-2 in the ninth inning.
Noah Madas paced the offense with two hits, and the Beavers had the potential tying run just 90 feet away in their final at bat.
Wayne State enters the series with a 19-11 overall record and 11-6 in conference. The Wildcats will look to rebound after being swept in a two-game set by Augustana. Despite the recent setback, the Wildcats have been one of the stronger teams in the conference this season and present a tough challenge for the Beavers.
With all three games carrying conference implications, Minot State will aim to capitalize on timely hitting and the momentum built from their comeback win earlier in the week.
