LAKE CITY, Minn. – The season got off to a memorable start for the Minot State golf teams on the road last weekend with top 5 finishes by newcomers Max Palmer and Emily Watts.

Now the Beavers look to continue that momentum at an event that proved to be one of their best last season.

The Minot State men's and women's golf teams tee off Monday and Tuesday at The Jewel Golf Club in Lake City, Minnesota, for The Jewel Invitational hosted by Concordia-St. Paul.

Last year at this event, the Minot State men finished 8^th at The Jewel as the Beavers shot a season-low single-round score of 291. Then-freshman Kasen Rostad led the way for the Minot State men as he carded a collegiate-best score of 69, as well.

The Minot State women also had a strong performance, finishing 10th with a season-low single-round score of 330 at the tournament.

That sets the stage for another potentially big week of action on the course for Minot State, which opened the 2026-27 season with highlight performances by newcomers Palmer and Watts.

Palmer, a junior who transferred from Chandler-Gilbert Community College and who is a former North Dakota high school state champion at Bottineau High School, opened his Beaver playing career by tying for 2^nd place last week at the MSU/CSP Fall Brawl, shooting a 1-over 143 (72-71).

Watts, a true freshman from Toronto, Ontario, had a strong collegiate debut as she tied for 4^th in the women's MSU/CSP Fall Brawl standings at 10-over 152 (77-75).
Both were two shots off their respective tournament lead.

They'll look to continue their hot start to the season, setting the pace for Minot State, which as a team for both the men and women look to continue the trend of strong play at The Jewel.
