Beavers bury Briercrest College

MSU's defense forces 30 turnovers, gives up just six first half points

Minot State's Christina Boag powers up for a basket ask teammate and sister Carly Boag watches during MSU's win over Briercrest.
MINOT, N.D. – Minot State University opened with a 14-0 run and held Briercrest College to just six first half points in an 81-32 rout in nonconference women's basketball Sunday at the MSU Dome.
The Beavers were sharp on both ends of the court early, scoring the game's first 14 points, capped by a nifty pass from Kelly Pankratz (Sr., G, Malta, Mont.) to Christina Boag (Fr., F, Tamworth, Australia) for a layup and the 14-0 lead.
It didn't get much better for Briercrest in the first half as the Clippers (3-7 overall) shot just 8.3 percent from the floor in the first half, making two field goals and two free throws. In all, CBC had 30 turnovers and shot just 22 percent in the game.
The Beavers (4-1 overall) kept the pressure on with multiple players, getting all 14 players into the scoring column. Boag finished with a team-high 16 points and added seven rebounds, while sister Carly Boag (Fr., G, Tamworth, Australia) and senior Caroline Folven (C, Byron, Ill.) pitched in with 11 each.
MSU had a huge 49-26 rebounding advantage, collecting 18 offensive boards. Along with Christina Boag's seven, Adriana Cordova (Sr., F, Green River, Utah) finished with seven and Carly Boag, Michaela Larson (R-Fr., G, Hutchinson, Minn.), Lauren Safaranski (So., G, Burnsville, Minn.) and Samantha Gilbert (Jr., F, Nassau, Bahamas) all pulled down five rebounds.
The Clipper were led by a pair of double-digit scorers as Valerie Robinson scored 16 points and added nine rebounds, while Jeri Brainard finished with 10 points.
MSU continues a home stand with a pair of games against the University of Manitoba Friday and Saturday, although the games will be played at Minot High School's Magic City Campus gym due to the North Dakota State Class A and B Volleyball Tournaments at the Dome. MSU and Manitoba tip off at 7 p.m. on Friday and 4 p.m. on Saturday.
