Box Score CROOKSTON, Minn. – Minot State University's
Jen Dixon (Jr., OH, Brandon, Manitoba) finished with 17 kills, but it was not enough as the Beavers fell 3-0 to the University of Minnesota Crookston in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference women's soccer Friday at Lysaker Gymnasium.
The Beavers (7-12 overall, 3-7 NSIC) hit just .152 and made nine errors in set 1, falling in a tight 25-23 set. MISU finished with 24 hitting errors compared to just 11 for the Golden Eagles. UMC (9-9, 4-6) had just six total hitting errors over the final two sets, winning 25-21 and 25-18.
"We are doing a lot of really good things, but unfortunately we missed a great opportunity to win tonight," said MISU head coach
Travis Ward. "I'm really proud of how we are growing and looking forward to getting back at it tomorrow."
The poor hitting percentage wasn't just on the attack as the Beavers had a total of 10 service errors in the match. Minot State did, however, out-ace the Golden Eagles 7-2 as
Ashley Heavenor (So., L, Cochrane, Alberta) hit a total of three aces in the match.
Dixon finished hitting .214 as she had 17 kills on a team-high 42 attacks.
Taylor Butters (Fr., OH, Spokane Valley, Wash.) added nine kills on 24 attempts and
Shaunessy Dauwalder (R-Fr., OH, Stanley, N.D.) and
Kelsey Wingo (Sr., MH, Twain Harte, Calif.) combined for 11 kills. Wingo had the team's top hitting percentage with a solid .455 and did not record an error.
Alexandra Skeeter paced the Golden Eagles with 10 kills, while Brittany Looker added nine for a balanced UMC attack. Sierra Trost had 29 assists and 10 digs for Crookston.
Minot State's
Emily Byrne (Jr., S, Reno, Nev.) was the team's top setter, finishing with 36 assists and also paced the defense with 11 digs.
Minot State will finish off the two-match road swing with a 4 p.m. start at Bemidji State Saturday.
