MARSHALL, Minn. – Minot State University cut 11 strokes off its first round score but couldn't move up the leaderboard, settling for 11th place overall at the 2015 Southwest Minnesota State Mustang Invite played Sunday at the Marshall Golf Club.
The Beavers finished with a 368 in round 2, besting its 379 from round 1, but finished 36 strokes behind Black Hills State. Minnesota State leapfrogged over multiple teams with a stellar 321 in the final round to top Upper Iowa by a single stroke to win the team title.
All four MSU players shot sub 100s in Sunday's second round as Alexandra Bernier (Fr., Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan) was five strokes better in round 2, finishing with a 95.
Kayla Palczewski (Sr., Bowman, N.D.) and
Samantha Cottingham (Jr., Underwood, N.D.) both were better in round 2 for the Beavers with Palczewski finishing four strokes better with a 90 and Cottingham two strokes better with a 95. They were tied for 54th and 63rd respectively.
Winona State's Katya Hoffman fended off St. Cloud State's Laurel Enstrom for the individual title with a 152 over two rounds.
Pacing the Beavers individually was
Kayla Barke (Jr., Williston, N.D.) who finished with an 88 in both rounds to tie for 42nd with a 176.
The Beavers travel to the Augustana University Invite next week in Sioux Falls, S.D.
