MINOT, N.D. – The Minot State baseball team continues Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play this week as the Beavers travel to Plattsmouth, Neb. to take on the Minnesota State Mavericks.
The Beavers and Mavericks were originally scheduled to play the four-game series in Mankato, Minn. on Saturday and Sunday, but got moved due to inclement weather. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Thursday and Friday beginning at 10 a.m. each day.
Minot State is 3-1 in NSIC play after winning three of four games vs. Winona State last weekend.
The Beavers overcame a six-run deficit to win game two and a five-run deficit to win game four in the series vs. Winona State.
Minot State is hitting .253 as a team with 74 runs, 108 hits, 24 doubles, two triples and 13 home runs on the season.
Dustin Wilcox leads Minot State at the plate while hitting .333, followed by
Ethan Fleming and
Michael Borst who are hitting .321 and .313, respectively.
Darrel Doll leads the team with four home runs and 15 RBIs with a .571 slugging percentage.
Kyle Williamson has notched three home runs while
Zack Kunkel and
Celestino Rodriguez have posted two home runs apiece.
Scouting the Minnesota State Mavericks
Minnesota State enters the series with a 9-4 record and 4-0 mark in NSIC this season. Jordan Hart has posted a team-high two home runs and 16 RBIs while Luke Waldek is hitting .432 to lead the team. The Minnesota State offense has five players hitting .350 or better. Dalton Roach is 3-0 on the season with a 2.50 ERA in 18 innings of work on the mound for the Mavericks.
As a team, the Mavericks are hitting .317 with 72 runs, 132 hits, 25 doubles and two triples and home runs. The Minnesota State pitching staff has a team ERA of 3.47 while giving up 49 runs on 104 hits and striking out 142 opposing batters.
Head coach Matt Magers is in his 10
th season at the helm of Minnesota State and holds a career record of 397-119.
