MINOT, N.D. -- The Minot State volleyball team will open Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play on Thursday (Sept. 6) when it travels to Minnesota State Moorhead for a 6 p.m. match in Nemzek Fieldhouse.
The Beavers, who are currently 5-3 on the season, enter NSIC play with a winning record for the first time in the NCAA Division II era.
Minot State compiled a 3-1 record last weekend at the Rosella Meier Tournament hosted by Nebraska-Kearney. The Beavers swept Newman and South Dakota Mines 3-0 and also defeated Midwestern State 3-1. The Beavers only loss came to No. 5 Nebraska-Kearney.
Shelby Spuller and
Karli Koza were each named to the all-tournament team for the Beavers.
Spuller, who was also named to the all-tournament team at the Microtel and Travelodge Classic hosted by Minnesota State Moorhead, leads the Beavers with 107 kills and is averaging 3.45 kills per set. She also is averaging 1.71 digs and 0.45 blocks per set.
Emily Falldorf leads the Beavers averaging 0.90 blocks per set and ranks second on the team averaging 1.97 kills per set.
Hayley Swain tops the squad with a .328 attack percentage and is averaging 1.94 kills per set and 0.55 blocks pet set.
Senior setter
Kelsey Dewulf has posted three double-doubles on the year and is averaging 9.48 assists per set. She also is third on the team averaging 1.87 digs per set.
The Beaver defense is anchored by the trio of Koza,
Mekayla Gurley and
Shae Pedersen. Koza leads the team averaging 4.87 digs per set, while Gurley is averaging 2.35 digs per set and Pedersen averages 1.74 digs per set.
Minnesota State Moorhead enters the match with a 4-3 overall record. The Dragons went 3-1 at their own Microtel and Travelodge Classic and then posted a 1-2 record last weekend at the Augustana Tournament.
This will mark the second meeting of the season between the Beavers and the Dragons as Minnesota State Moorhead posted a 3-2 victory over Minot State in the season opener at the Microtel and Travelodge Classic. The Dragons prevailed 25-22, 16-25, 19-25, 25-20, 15-9 as they rallied for the victory.
